Questions about Jeep Comanche

So I found this 1988 Jeep Comanche Sport edition for sale and I'm trying to find out a bit more before I buy it.
It's an automatic for sure and a 4 speed I think. It has the 4.0 engine in it. But more than anything I'm wondering if there are any thing I should keep my eye out for. Any problems or questionable issues?
Or maybe does someone know what gears they have in them?
I don't know a ton about this truck but it looks like it's in pretty good shape.
Any help would me very welcomed.
Thanks.

It is more or less a XJ, so most the basics that you would look for there....
Gears????Should be a tag on the rear axle.

Rear suspension is spring under and the leaves are longer, so XJ lifts don't help. Spring over gives about 5-6" lift... Beds rot at the fender flares... Floor pans rust really bad too on these trucks.

I might have a beat up MJ later this summer and it is rusty....

Good resource is www.ComancheClub.com

Good deal

x 2 on comanche club those guys no everything because they really have tons of them and like live in the bed practically on these vehicles.

Look for obvious signs of abuse though dents in the skid, broken shocks, a lot of people beat the crap out of these vehicles and you end up spending enough money that could of spent being patient and finding a better condition one. All I have to say is don't be tempted with getting rusty's stuff for mods, look into more people build custom stuff for you and you can get better condition stuff. Find a donor Cherokee, if you want to build. Vacuum disconnect sucks as well. I would say don't even bother getting the posi lok cable and just get a better axle, but that is from my experience you constantly need to adjust the damn thing before you go out it goes out of place after wheeling and sometimes doesn't engage. I would say find a 99 or newer rolled cheapokee(fairly common), and just massage it into comanche.

Just do an axle swap and in my opinion get rid of the renix system.

What year is the one you've had hidden? I keep hearing they get better mileage than a 4 banger XJ...
