Quick gamer question!

I am hoping you guys can answer a quick question for a non-gamer.

Anyways we picked up a old school Wii for my kids to play with but it doesn't have memory card so they can't save their games.

I am hoping to pick up the right card and maybe a game or two before his birthday Monday...

What kind of memory card does it use and where would be a descent place to pick up some things for it...?

A regular SD card. They should be able to save their games without it, but won't be able to take their saved games to another Wii without it.

What makes sense...

Are these enough out of date that there is a good place to buy used games?

Does it matter that they are trying to save "game cube" games? Harry Potter, Luigi's ghost, etc...

An old school wii? I thought those things were still all the rage.

I can't get over calling any gaming console a 'Nintendo'.
I got my first Nintendo in 8th grade ('97-98?) and by that time it was already so old it was a freebie, even with the 10 or so games it came with.
That's the only gaming device I ever owned.

I lived a boring life without technology. All I had to play with were friends, and dirt. Seems not much has changed

The internal card is 512 MB and you should be able to use up to 32 GB SD card for additional storage. I don't think the games take much space when you save stuff on them so I don't think you'd need anything bigger than a couple gigs to get them going.

Nintendo stopped making the Wii in 2013 For used games I'd probably check KSL, then maybe the cheap bin at walmart. GameStop buys and sells used games but they seem to be expensive. If you are looking for a particular game though they might be worth looking at.

As a side note I got this to work just the other day, its amazing how powerful phones are these days. I knew this was possible but hadn't tried it until recently. I had to escort some contractors at work a few weeks ago and knew it was going to take them a long time to finish their work. I decided to get some games on my phone and installed an emulator and Super Mario as well as Contra to play while I waited for them. It was a pain to use the on screen buttons to play so I ended up buying this remote that connects to my phone over bluetooth. The adapter sitting next to it is HDMI and allows me to get it on the TV on the wall. My wife came home the other day and found me in the basement playing OG Mario on my flatscreen with this remote and flipped out. She snatched the remote from my hand so quick so she could play it was unbelievable. It was pretty awesome to play and there was no screen or button lag. I've ordered another of this remote to give her for Christmas so we can play 2 player Contra together.

That is awesome, I dug out my 1989 Nintendo and my kid is digging Original Super Mario Bros... Its been fun showing him the hidden stuff.

I caught my wife playing with him too, nothing like being cool for the kids.

Ok I found out I am actually needing the game cube memory card that fits in the wii.

Anyone have one kicking around or know where to get one locally?

i have found them online but they can't get here by Monday.

I have used a Wii for years and never had a memory card. I have experienced no issues saving games so far. The front opens and allows an SD card to be inserted for larger capacity. I do not play Gamecube games on the Wii since i have an actual Gamecube to use.
If i remember correctly the Gamecube memory card came in 3 sizes, 512kb, 2MB and 8MB. Compare that to the internal 512MB the Wii already has.

Overall i would not stress about getting a memory card until later. the system has enough space to save your games unless a lot of stuff is already been downloaded onto the console.

If you and your kids like Super Mario then you will have to get the one for the Wii. It is the New Super Mario Bros and it is great.
