Racing the Wheeler

I couldn't decide wether to put this here or in Chit Chat so oh well.
Have any of you guys ever raced your wheeler? I raced my Jeep out at RMR a couple of times, once during regular eliminator rounds and once during the Midnight drags. This is a BLAST!!! They let me race with the top and doors off, and I was in the truck class. It would be fun to see some of you guys down there next year. You don't have to be fast, just consistent. I ran a 20 second quarter and still beat my buddy in his 15 second Bronco. You do have to pass tech, but is not that hard. There is nothing like the sound of MTR's in the burn out box. FUN

B and I were just talking about doing that the other day. Thought it would be funny to seen the jeep/buggy and the Bronco/buggy racing with our 38's.

Vonski had talked about doing it , did you?

We should all get our rigs out there next year and make our own class.

I think that they would just stick you in the truck class, thats were they put me. It would be way fuuny to see somebody put down a 13 or 14 on the strip and still have the 38's on. Just think of all the rice you could wup. And if you lost you could just drive over them. This is also a good way to see if your rear axle is up to snuff because the traction compond they put down is sticky stuff. I broke two trannies in my bug with a 60hp motor, BTW side stepping the clutch is not recomended.;)

I wish I would have taken my 400hp CJ out there! The only thing that stopped me was the thought of dumping the clutch and spreading parts across the Staging Lights!

I bet that thing could have turned a mid-13 sec. quarter!

On the MIdnight Drags night it is all heads up racing so you gotta be fast to win. But the adavantages are that you can race anybody you want. Here Civic, Civic, Civic:D

Long gone.... I pulled the motor and sold it seperately along with the Projection, and stuffed a stock 350 in its place. The Engine was a 355 w/ Roller Valvetrain, Dart Sportsman heads and a ton of other goodies. I'd go out and pick on 5.0 Mustangs in the Jeep...... they never suspected a CJ would SPANK THEM!! Especially one as ugly as mine!

That thing liked 2WD breakage....... I stripped a Ring Gear just a week after upgrading to a rear Locker and One Piece Shafts...... Frickin $600+ into a AMC 20!!! Thats what I get for Power Shifting 400hp @ 6500 rpm, while having 100% Traction!! I should have started out w/ 60's!

I originally called up RMR and talked to some "track monkey" that told me that I wouldn't pass tech w/o doors, then complained about running Swampers on the track or some stupid crap. I said screw it.

Thats what I was thinkin'. I probably talked to someone who didn't know any answers, so it was easier to just say no.
No biggie, I'm thinking more of entering my rig in an SCCA race if they have a mini truck division. :D

That I'd have to see :D

For those that like the combination of speed and wheeling, enter a Rally-Style race. The Wasatch Cruisers did one a month ago and I loved it. Racing as fast as you can over ruts, downed trees, just to get to the next checkpoint...it was cool!

If others are interested, I can arrange to get copies of the same rally style course that we did. It can easily be done in the snow. I would be an official rather than a participant due to the fact I've already run the course....Is anyone interested....Greg??? Possibly the First Anual RME Rally....

The course was like this. We all started at a certain location, ten minutes apart. At the exact moment our time started, we were handed map packet with 14 different 8-1/2"x11" maps. Each one was numbered but not in order. We had to hurry to shuffle the maps and get on our way....hopefully in the right direction. I think the course was 65 miles long and took up to 3 hours to complete. Along the way you had to find three spots marked on the map, at those spots you and/or your navigator would get out and look in the immediate area for a container, in the container would be a number. You take one and head out for the next spot....so on...

Could make a real wheelin adventure in the snow! Speed+Snow
:D

Any interest?
