After a trip up Providence Canyon with the family I realized the need to protect the back seat occupants from flying stuff. I got real worried about the baby vs. toolbag scenario.

I put in several emails to Ed Cline at www.raingler.com for a cargo net for the 4Runner.

I ordered one up and it should be here in a few days, I'll post up how the install goes since it is designed for a 2nd Gen.

The net arrived 3 days after I ordered it. It was nicely packaged and even came with a sticker.

First I removed all of the panels for the cargo area to inspect for wiring and/or washer fluid lines. FYI, there is nothing up there except the passenger side window does have the lead for the diversity antenna that is printed on the glass. This was not a problem.

I then marked my upper holes for the footman loops. I originally wanted to have the upper attachment points mounted outside the plastic and screwed into the sheetmetal, but this was not going to happen so I broke out the 2-1/4" hole saw and cut the panel to allow fingers to access the footman loop when threading the strap and tightening the webbing.

I made sure to mount it in a way that allowed full functionality of the OEM tonneau cover. This way the net can stay in place full-time and the tonneau is removed for wheeling. Another cool aspect of the full length net is that if I remove the upper straps I can pull the entire net over cargo on the floor and attach to the rear-most mounts.

All in all I'm very impressed with the quality of the product and the versatility.
It can be adapted to anything as this net is designed for a 2nd gen (1990-1995) 4Runner and I mounted it in a 3rd gen 4runner.

And yes, it does look cool from the outside and with the rear window down!
