Depends on which type. Is it the SDRAM you were talking about before? The older RAM like that is hard to find new and cheap.... maybe someone on here has some to sell you.

If it's for your laptop a good local place is www.ebccomputers.com and a good mail order place is www.newegg.com I've bought thou$a$nd from both

yeah, what he said, what kind (if you know?) I will be having some of the older SDRAM I will be getting rid of shortly here. If it will work for you it's yours. (I'm not positive how much exactly I have though)

Another question, can a moron like me change out a Penium 2 for a penium 4? Is it worth the $120 bucks for the swap?

wont work, you'll have to change out the motherboard as well...pentium 2 is either a slot 1 (if its a slot proc) or a socket 370 a pentium 4 is either a socket 478 or socket 775...either way they wont work without replacing everything.

RAM doesn't go bad often, I'd take the free if I were you. Yes it's hard to find less than 512 now.... ironically the older school the ram is, the MORE it costs.

Yes there is better brands, but it's generally unimportant to get the best ram if you aren't 1) gaming (hard new games) or 2) encoding video

And LOL@PII P4 swap -_- :p ;)

So is it a bad thing to drop 512 into a comp that came with 128 to start with and a PII?

As a general rule of thumb, the more ram the better, however on some real old motherboards you are restricted to the amount of ram you can use (likely not a problem on yours) and every stick of ram uses more power.... also likely not an issue for you but it could be. Each stick of ram uses about the same amount of juice no matter how big it is... so... one stick of 512 is better than 4 of 128. Also you may have a limited number of slots for ram so you may have to have a bigger stick to get the amount of ram you need. With that said, free is nice ;)

Oh and btw, carpet is the enemy of computers. If you must walk on it while the computer is open do it bare footed, and don't lay any computer parts on the carpet ;)
