Okay, this is my rant i guess, and i may be out of line, thick skin so tell me what ya think.
internet ad(i won't dime him out) was *yr/make*vehicle being parted out, no prices or details. I call the guy.
me: hey, u, this is me, you still have the *vehicle* parting out?
him: yes.
me: do you have the alternator and starter?
him: yes.
me: i'd like some extras as spares. how much do you want for them?
him: i don't know, make me an offer.
me: uh, okay, 20$ a piece.
him: uh, i don't know, how about i give you a call?
me: well tell me what you want for them.
him: i don't know, i'd like to sell the engine complete.
me: how many miles on this?
him: 150K
me: look, not sure that anyone will pay a whole lot for a 150K mile engine, and if they need one, they'll already have a starter and alternator. And with 150K on them, they prolly aren't worth much more than a core charge.
him: i'll give you a call. i don't want to sell anything cheap.
me: okay, do you have the tranny?
him: yes
me: how much do you want for it?
him: uh i don't know, make me an offer?
me okay, 50$ for the tranny.
him: uh, i don't want to sell anything cheap. let me give you a call.
me: how much do you want for it then?
him: let me give you a call
look people, if you have something to freaking sell, put A PRICE ON IT, and don't get bound up if you get a low ball. it's called negotiation. i mean is this ad a feeler? this is RME, not ebay
i buy a lot of stuff from people on this site, and it almost always goes like this: i call, you, got this for sale? yes...can i come over and pay you cash right now for it? yes, okay, be right there. dude gets payday. simple as that!
don't even get me started on the guy that had two jeeps for sale in bumfufu utah, and i freaking drove 3 hours to see them, offered him what he wanted, without negotiating the price down, WE SHOOK HANDS, i told him i'd be back like the next day, i had to borrow a tow vehicle and car hauler, and after i did all that, the POS tells me he changed his freaking mind. that costs me a lot of time and $ wasted. where i'm from, a deal with a handshake is a real agreement.
i know i sound like a jerk with this post and i'm not, i'm just a wheeler like all of you who has a garage with way too many broken down 4x4 parts.
aahh, now i feel better about getting this all off my chest.
