generally with TJs (coils) you will notice a lot more body roll with the sway bar off...I know in my old cherokee when I took the front one off I noticed it...

In my Wrangler (leaves) I didn't notice too much body roll with the sway bar off... and the front and rear track bars off! :D

In my brother's XJ (Coils all around like a TJ) he notices a lot of body roll with just the front off... He drives it around with the front off and is just careful with it...

He had the rear off for one of our Moab trips and in town he was scared to go around corners like he would normal, it was really tippy... So... that may help you, but may not because he has coils in the rear not leaves, so I'm not sure how it will affect the stability of yours... :)

The rear sway bar on TJ's is a light duty sway bar, on my friends TJ (Tera long-arm, 4" plus 2" spacers, and 35") when we took the rear off, front on, there was not that much difference. BUT, with both sway bars off there was a noticable difference. I firmly believe that if he would have had his rear sway bar on, when we did Moab Rim, he would not have rolled over.

I would say that your should leave your rear sway bar on, esp. if you plan to drive it without the front sway bar.

The Currie anti-rock works awesome with the rear TJ sway bar to control offroad body roll, in fact, I have been told that the currie unit was designed to be used in conjunction with the factory rear sway bar.

thanks for the info, but what i am looking to do is run the front sway bar all the time, and not run the rear.

i took the rear sway bar of of my xj and left the front sway bar on for road driving, i could not tell a diffrence with the rear sway bar off unless i discontected the front.

i think i may just hook up some disconects for the rear and just leave it on when i am on pavment.

Take a look at the TK Slider. It is a rear sway bar conection that alow you to pull a pin and have the extra droop in the rear.
In the front get some JKS sway bar disconects. Ready to roll with the pull of 4 pins and the end pop em back in for a good ride home.

Search for TK Sliders tons of articles.

Good luck

98 TJ, 37" MTR's, 7" Lift
I have ramped my 98 TJ with and without the rear sway bar and found no measurable difference. I would just leave it attached unless it is interfering with a lift kit.

I made a set of adjustable (and disconectable) sway bar links for the rear so I could vary the height as necessary with the lift kits (2.0, 4.0, 6.5 and 8.0 !!) I have installed in my TJ.

My current 8" lift is beyond the range of the adjustable links I made, so I am installing non adjustable "set length links" to get the correct working length (suspension at full droop and links and sway bar at full droop).

I also say run it. I ran mine with out for a long time thinking that it would hurt my flex. but after i hooked it up I could not tell a bit of difference flex wise. But after too many close calls in Moab I put it back on for stability and am definitely putting a anti-rock on before my next trip down. I felt way to unstable in off camber obstacle's. 4 inch lift and 33s.....
