We're back from Relic Run 2010!
12 rigs loaded with gear headed for the Uintah mountain range in an atempt to revist the camping and exploring methods of yester years via aged IH Scouts, 40 Series Land Cruisers, manual chokes, topo maps, lanterns and stoves running on white gas, twinkies and 'lil smokies.
The group made camp in the Murdock Basin area, which provided a perfect site for the basecamp of Relic Run 2010. Springbar tents, 50's era military wall tents, and even makeshift tent-like tarp structures could be seen around basecamp. Dutch ovens cooking away, children playing, the inevitable tweaking and wrenching on some mechanical issues on a vehicle are all normal activities each morning or night. But most important is the comradery and laughter as stories are told around campsites, or the fire as meals are prepared.
During the week the group hit several lakes such as Pyramid Lake, the Washington Group Lakes, Murdock Lake, Soapstone Basin, and a quick jaunt down to the Duchesne Tunnel. Lunches on the trail, minor mechanical issues, swimming and fishing in lakes, classic old iron rigs and smiling faces. Relic Run 2010 was a blast, and 2011 was already in the cross hairs around the campfire discussion halfway through the trip this year.
