Rim question

I picked up a nice set of alloy wheels for my son's Comanche in trade for some welding. They are 15x10 (and 5 on 4.5). I have heard that the wider rims tend to lose the tire bead when lowering your tire pressure on the trail (more than the narrower rims). He will be running 33-12.5 tires. Should I be worried ? or will these work out ok ? If I should go smaller does anyone want to trade ?

I wouldn't worry about it with only 33's.

That depends on a lot of things what type of vechicle? How heavy? What type of driver is he and what does he like to wheel rocks, mud, ect? Has he even slipped a bead before? What tire size rim combo was he using before? Radial tires or bias? As for the width the 15x8 would be better at holding a 12.5 tire at lower pressures. I used to run a set of 31x10.5x15 goodyear old style MT's (crappy tire) on 15x8 wheels on a sami with 4.89 t-case and 5.13 diffs both locked at 7 p.s.i. and never slipped a bead. I did lose two tires (punctured sidewalls) If he likes the rims I would run the 33's / 15x10 combo and see how it does you can always sell the rims later. Hope this helps.

I agree vehicle weight and tire type have a lot to do with it. I have been running 15x10 rims on my samurai for 15 years. The rig has always been somewhat heavier than stock (D44's, etc), but it is still relatively light. Started with 33's, then ran 35's for 5-6 years, now I'm on 37's. Always ran radial tires, and 5-6 psi on the trails. In all those years, I have never lost a bead (but I have punctured a number of sidewalls).

Thanks for the feedback, he will be running them on a comanche with d44 rear and d30 front. He isn't much of a leadfoot and has never lost a bead yet. He runs 32 or 33 inch tires and currently has 15x8 rims.

The one problem you may run into depending on the tire sidewall is rushing air
