RME Mtn Bike ride; Porcupine Rim in Moab

That'd be fun if we rode together again Curt, far and away from IN! I wouldn't worry too much about the fat part... I'm currently in the worst shape of my life, and the heaviest. :ugh: I think our whole group will look pretty pathetic, at least on the uphill part. The downhill will be a different story, all that extra weight will make us go faster, right?

It'd definately be fun to do a real trail with you, not some game trail in podunk Indiana. I've only done one ride this whole year:eek: I think my bike is mad at me.

Sooo, what's the draw to this trail? I'll be there and want to ride/meet with you all. I've ridden many trails in Moab and loved them, somehow I missed the porcupine day. Along with the technical stuff, which you gotta have, is there some flowy fun sections too. Less white knuckle?

I know mine was. :( We're going to do the Crest probably on the 28th.... wanna go? And I'm up for a ride tomorrow, shuttle to the saddle and down Middle Canyon. :D

I wish I could tomorrow, my wife has to work late so I gotta pick up the kiddo from the sitter.:(

Maybe the 28th though

hmmm, that'd be during fall break, and we haven't even been on a wheeling trip yet this fall :-\ I'd have to blow the dust off the bike, but that is how I was introduced to moab after all! I'll talk it over with the wifey, I'm sure it would be on the condition that there was some sort of women's wheelin trip during the bike ride

Well there you go Ben! That would work, sounds like we might have a pretty big group!

No kidding, those dirt hills next to the river were hardcore... :p Still, it was good times. I think riding my bike kept me sane out there.

I've ridden twice this year, felt like I was going to die after each ride. :-\

For me the draw is constant technical redrock with perfect riding-sized ledges on a downgrade allowing you to maintain good speed for a long time. It's like biking at the ski resorts, but not as steep and a lot harder on you when you wreck. Yeah, there's a lot of everything... but it's mostly rocky, lots of ledges, and lots of speed, if you're comfortable with it.

It's not a ton of white-knuckle stuff, most of it is pretty manageable. Towards the end the trail is cut into the side of a cliff with a huge drop on the right... it can be pretty hairy if you don't care for heights. The trail is singletrack at that point and there's some spots that you don't want to screw up on.

I really enjoy Porcupine Rim, to be honest with you I don't care for Slickrock. IMO Porcupine is how mtn biking should be.

Very convincing Greg, I like that RME is up for stuff like this(non-wheeling and all) I'm working on a hotel room right now.

The initial climb might be difficult for your bike, do you have a lockout for the rear suspension? I've ridden it 3 times on an old-school Gary Fisher Y frame bike that didn't climb worth a damn. I hated the uphill, but it's about 3 miles of loose, ledgy uphill to the summit and then mostly downhill after that. There are some semi-flat parts, but not too many. I think after the summit is where you'll really enjoy your bike. The last bit of trail had some terrain that you'll have to haul your bike over, some massive rocks and a steep canyon.

Here's some good info-

:greg:

Thanks! I don't have a lockout, but it still sounds like I'll be able to manage it expecially when the downhill part is towards the end of the trail. Hopefully I can make it down there. :D

Sovereign, dunno either. My brother said it was ok. Wouldn't go down just for that. Wow I sound like a trail snob. Maybe I am. With AF Canyon in the back yard....

Amasa Back is fun. Gemini is easy and long but also fun. Barlett wash is a hidden freeride playground(hard to find though) A local bike shop employee said that there are many DH lines dropping off from Hells Revenge into town. I like riding slickrocks' practice loop backwards. Just me though.

I've heard about it, thats about it.

We've pretty much already planned a trip the 17th - 19th so thats when I could go.

Of course, plan everything around Chris... :p Tacoma wants to plan the trip around when the Summit Machine Moab trip is. Hopefully it'll fall on that same weekend or you're SOL.

Whatever dude....-_-:greg: Why don't you fix your driveshaft and lets go beat our junk one day and beat ourselves the next?
