Is there any interest in rock crawling competitions like UROC used to do years ago?

So, are old, I mean previous competitors going to be banned from having fun at these? I think that can be taken care of in the classes.

any and all will just lead to unlimited rules making it impossible for Joe Gowheeler to have fun and be competitive without trashing his rig trying to keep up.

I agree... Keep it fair by classes and going driver against driver. You old comp guys can't drive anyway; if you could, you would still be competing :p

'any and all' was in reference to the driver, not their rig...

But, that's exactly what you're eluding to when you start talking about an all Toyota (or whatever make) class. Surely you don't expect a daily driven 4 Runner to be competitive against say a Toyota powered buggy do you? Or are you meaning 3 or 4 different classes within the "Toyota Class"? Talk about complicating things. Might be fun to watch a "Toyota Only" competition, but probably only to the Toyota fans out there. I think part of the overall fan appeal would be to cheer on "your" make, when competing against the competition. I think this is a big reason NASCAR has such a broad fan base.

The original rules were set up based on simple things like tire size, amount of sheet metal, axles, wheelbase, ect. I think if we go back to these earlier rules there will be a spot for anyone who wishes to compete to do so, and be competitive within their designated class as well.

I think so too...

the problem with the original rules is that they were written during a time when buggy's didnt' really exist. Now they are common, and the technology that is/was in them has trickled down to the lower levels and has changed the landscape. The types of rigs that the common guy has are different than the what they had 7 years ago. Back then a long armed TJ on 37's or a simple stretched CJ on swampers was a beast and competitive, now thats pretty common.

Price has addressed this, I think. They have a street legal class and OHV. Buggies are OHV and compete amongst themselves.

I love the idea that the street legal class has to pass muster with a state trooper and not just a forged inspection from a buddy-buddy inspection shop. I also like the idea that they should have to drive the rig to and from the competetion...NO TRAILERING THE STREET LEGAL RIGS!

well... I'm building a Blazer to do what trails it can (probably more what I have the balls for LOL I'm not sure I'll exceed the vehicle), and it's a daily driver and will remain so. So I'd love a competition where that would have a chance. I can't currently swing a buggy, so I'd need a "run whatcha brung" kind of class, or I'd spectate.

Interested in whatever happens, however it does. I think the old days were more fun for people overall.

thats a very good point, but there are a LOT of toyota owners out and usually with toyotas comes crazy wheeling that will bring crowds. as far as rules go id try to make it into a competition of your typical built toyotas, full bodied, 37s or 35s somewhat street legal (7ms will be ok;)) i think that way its a total comp of skill, almost anyone could compete for under 6 grand and do well depending on your skill.
