There is a road up emigration canyon--well up the canyon that keeps going up emigration...can't think of the name right now....that we always called "the miners road". We used to drive up there all the time because we have some family friends that have lived up there for 30+ years and have the key to the gate. It's overgrown now but I still hike it from time to time. Up on top there are tons of roads and old structures that go all over and I'm sure some of those roads could deffinately trace back down towards the area you guys were in.

The spur road off of Burr Canyon to the mine above Pinecrest? Thats another neat road I would love to check out. I plan to hike up to the mine this summer.

From a recent thread on Bogley where we are discussing closed routes:
"Sometime prior to 1975, a side road left Burr Canyon and wandered up to a mine above present day Pinecrest. it was there as early as 1961 according to the USGS map. Not sure when it was closed but it is indeed gated and closed."

I've got some info on the actual mines as well as the family that mined there, not sure if its still the same owners or not? You'll have to subscribe to find out :p jk

I use to have to do work up at the repeaters and those gates are ALWAYS closed due to one of the towers up there is FAA... the only reason the gates were open that night was for the firefighters to get into the area... otherwise they keep a very close eye on the keys to those gates... I had to show FAA clearance to get a key checked out to me to get up there to work on the camera systems and then after I closed the gate I had to call a number to report I was done in the are and they timed me to get back to make sure a key was not made on the way back... it was like being in prison or something like that...

Yes there was a loss of credibility in the eyes of the people about the stupid jeeper but I think that in the eyes of the officials we might have made some ground in how we acted today and I know that Dave is definitely not going to be doing that stupid act again.... So all in all great work of a bad situation!

Glad to hear it all went well.

Dave, thanks for getting me into these forums, Its been a while... Since before Brit died.

Dave,
regarding one way to say thanks.... RME does (or used to do) a lot of trail clean ups and other trail work. I'll see you at the next one.

Just curious, did anyone contact any of the media about the recovery? I know they probably won't cover it, but maybe it's worth a shot. Anyone got any friends in the media that believe in telling the whole story?

x2. Glad it went as well as it did getting it out though.

Yes, me too. I should add to my comments that I'm glad you got your j**p out without having to pay a small fortune or being forced to leave it there any longer.

Kudos to everyone who helped and to all those who were willing to help as well.

What's more amazing is that Spunky took work off.... for anything! ;)

Even more amazing is that he actually has a job.

Just curious, did anyone contact any of the media about the recovery?

The best chance for coverage is to get the FS to send out a release. I will get with the USFS spokesperson and get a release submitted if someone can fill in a few details:

Name of the area/road where the extraction took place?

Who attended from the FS (name/office)?

Attendees: Kurt W, Marc B, Brian C, Chad ?, who else?

Time start to finish of the extraction?

I read all the posts on the Trib that was referenced at the beginning of this thread and you know it always amazes me... We in the offroad community are scrutized as substandard SOBs who couldn't care less for others and/or the law. Compare the comments of the so called informed on the trib with those on this site. I am proud to be a member of this community and glad to be associated with the likes of you. This world would truly be a better place if more people were willing to help others in their time of need instead of wishing they could "mount a 50 calibre on my truck" to shoot those who were trying to get home when the freeway was closed. How could the seemingly heartless and definitely ignorant trib posters ever hope to know the personal needs of those searching for alternate routes. Maybe a wife was in labor, or a child was about to have a surprise birthday party, or a loved one was on deaths door and the last chances for healing of lifelong wounds were about to pass on (or last chances for expressions of love and gratitude). We never know the needs of others and just because we ASSume (as was so elequently posted on the Trib) they are just being irresponsible doesn't mean they truly are. Thanks for being great and inspiring me to be better.

Geez...Way too many people, and too much going on.

Ok..I should know everyone's names, and really tried to chat with everyone...but that ole FS LEO was pretty persistent.

It was the gentleman in the yellow Rubicon with the killer lift who followed me. He said he was in WVC, so he just tagged behind me, which I am guessing was no picnic since I only did about 60 mph the whole way.

Thanks for that, yellow rubicon man. ;-)

Who attended from the FS (name/office)? It would be on the ticket...Dave?

Attendees: Kurt W, Marc B, Brian C, Chad ?, who else? Chad's Wife, Taylor M., Medsker...there were nine total including Dave (liberty owner).

Time start to finish of the extraction? 10:00-12:20 (approx)

No problem Dave, it was on my way anywho....... Plus, I wanted to make sure you didn't go looking for any new "shortcuts" on the way home. :)

......So I was looking around on Google Earth.....

(Famous last words)

And it looks like a guy could get to where I was from Bountiful, or NSL without too much trouble (on foot or bike, of course).

So I think I might just try this. Anyone familiar with the area?

I noticed that road when I was scouting out your recovery last weekend. While there is surely a gate on the Bountiful side I see no reason you couldn't use it as a base for a hike.
