Rotopax Experience

I found a couple of threads on here that are a few years old, but wanted to see if any of you are still enjoying your Rotopax gas containers? Anyone running with their 3 gallon jugs? I am looking at picking up 2 of the 3 gallon jugs and hanging them off my spare tire carrier. I was looking at the Olympic tire carrier adapter that bolts behind the spare tire, but I don't think it is beefy enough to hold 6 gallons of gas. Anyone here have any experience with it carrying the rotopax stuff?

I saw the Teraflex video about their Highlift bracket, and I don't really want to hang them from my jack, but it is a possibility if I can't get anything else to work.

Thanks for the input!

I have 2, 2 gallon rotopax for water. I bought the stuff so that I could mount them like that Olympic (the rotopax knob thingys, I would fab the rest myself)
I have been ratchet strapping 2 chairs to my spare tire so I haven't convinced myself to put the rotopax there yet. So far I have been putting them in back of the xj, I know water is a bit different than gas, but the jugs don't leak, my only complaint is the fill spout, it is submerged in the water so you have to get your dirty hands on the fill spout and while you have it in "pour" mode the little cap is loose and could blow away in strong wind (or you could drop it in the dirt). But the jugs don't leak, I have been putting one on the bottom of my food bin and it doesn't leak.

Cool! Thanks for the info. I called them today, and they do sell factory blemished items from their warehouse, but it is in Logan. I need to get up there soon to check out what they got. They say they are structurally sound, but have casting or color variations, so they sell them at a discount. If their jugs are as good as everyone online claims, I will consider putting gas inside if there is no leaking and no fumes. I really prefer to mount it outside though, but don't know how much more weight I can put on my tire carrier. it is rated for a 37, that I have, with my highlift on there too. Not sure if 4 to 6 gallons of gas will add enough weight to damage it, but I don't know if I want to risk it either.

Some of the best gas jugs you can get (IMO). I have a 1 gal gas jug that I took down to HITR a few years ago. I decided to not take it on the trail so I left a full 1 gal jug in my tacoma expecting to come back after a few days to a truck that stunk like fuel. Not even the slightest hint of fuel could be smelt. Having gas inside any vehicle always makes me nervous, so if I could avoid it I would...but if I were to put any kind of fuel container in a vehicle it would definitely be a rotopax. I used to be a dealer for them and I still get their dealer emails, but my login no longer works as they cancelled all their online only dealer accounts. I'll see if I can get back in (doubt it).

I carry a 2 gallon on the back of my buggy, it was more of an experiment and now I want to add a larger one or attach another 2 gallon for long desert travels.

The containers are top notch. They do no leak, nor do the fumes leach through the plastic. I'm impressed with them.

Dave you'll have to let us know what you find at the warehouse, I had no idea that they were a local company.

They were a completely local company. They were bought out a few years ago by a National distributor company. They now are still based out of Utah for most of their stuff but the mothership is not a Utah based company.

I think my cousin runs the logan warehouse and or production operations. Maybe we could put together some sort of group buy if there was enough interest.

I likely won't make it up there during business hours until next Tuesday. I am torn on what to do. I leave Tuesday for Escalante with the Jeep, and if I wait until Tuesday to pick up the tanks and mount, I won't have much time to get it all mounted up for my trip. I am looking at either 2 3 gallon cans, 2 4 gallon cans, or 4 2 gallon cans. Trying to figure out if my tire carrier can handle that much extra weight, and where I would mount them on my tire carrier.

I am also looking at doing some of the water cans inside eventually, but I am not worrying about that for this trip.

This morning I drove to the Rotopax warehouse in Logan. I picked up their tire carrier mount, universal mounting plate, 2 locking handles, and 2 3 gallon gas containers. I got all of that for $200. I was ESTATIC! The biggest savings were in the gas containers because I bought factory 2nd's, but I can't tell why they are 2nds. I got it home, set it up, and mounted it on my Jeep. I also pushed the plate in tight to the tire, marked for a new hole in the slide, and drilled it out so I could get it tight to the spare tire.

I am heading out tonight for Escalante. I will report when I get back how well it held up, but first impressions are fantastic. The system is simple, easy to use, and very convenient. The people in the Logan warehouse are super cool, easy to deal with, and very helpful!

Subscribing for the trip report. I'd like to see them in person when you get back, too.

I will post a trip report in that section of the forum. But I am happy to meet up and show you this setup. They have different containers for water, Diesel, Kero, and storage containers for tools and what not.

Thanks for the head's up on the local location-
I'll swing by the next time I'm out there.

Might be willing to try to round up stuff for others if we wanted to arrange something.

I'm back from my trip and love the rotopax setup! Rough roads and dramatic temp changes and everything worked great! I definitely recommend the rotopax setup to anyone looking for a way to carry fuel.

Going to be up in the area on May 3rd and will be stopping by the warehouse if anyone wants me to look for anything in particular.
