Rough Country Vs. Rustys, Tires..

ok well im looking into getting a 4.5" lift and im trying to decide against Rustys and Rough Country. the Rough country is $495 (http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_4.html )

and the Rustys is [FONT=Arial, Helvetica][SIZE=-1] $669.00 with the spring pack and [/SIZE][/FONT][FONT=Arial, Helvetica][SIZE=-1] $589.00 with the add a leaf.

does anyone know of any other 4.5 ( or around 4.5 ) in around the same price range?




and also when i do get a lift im going to want to upgrade my tires from my 30X9.5 R15 Futura MT's. so far im looking at:
-31X10.5 Micky Thompson Baja Claw for $158,
-super swamper TSL Radial 31X10.2 for $123 or the 32X10.5 for 142.
errggh to many decisions.

im trying to find a tire thats less than 160 per tire so sugestions in that price range will be help full.

Some of the rough country stuff is pretty good but if you are running leaf springs on your rig I would not run anything but rubicon express leafs I have seem to many break or bend. they do cost a little more but they are way better and worth the extra cost.

Did you look up the super swamper SSR's. I have them and they are 33's but you might want to check them out. They have a little road hum, but much less then the tsl's. Just a suggestion.

Search the web, local boards, classifieds, craigslist, Ebay ETC for the best prices on used parts. I would rather have used RE or Currie arms any day over those companies products.

I bought the springs for Jenn's Unlimited from a guy in Reno I found on CL. Her RE arms came from PA, WA and VA. Once you sort everything out, you'll be much better off than a cheaper "kit".

I also learned if you're looking at 32s, go for the next size up. 33x10.50 works great on XJs with 4"+ of lift

What type of problems did you have with the rough country lift? I am looking to lift my xj within the next two weeks...

This question comes up a lot and the recommendations are always go for the higher end product. I run a 4.5" Rubicon Express kit on my XJ and have no complaints on it at all. I didn't buy the full packs and instead went with the AAl......wish I hadn't, but live and learn.

Rusty's leaf springs I've seen turn into S shaped things...not a good pack. Never have been impressed with anything Rough Country. Stick to RE and you'll not regret it.

ok well thanks guys for the imput. well i was talkin to a friend the other day and he's gona sell me a Rusty's 4.5 W/ a spring pack for $400 which is $300 cheaper than new any only has a few months on it. so im probally just gona settle for it. epecially since RE is WAYY outa my price range

i went through 3 of rustys 4.5" spring packs 2 sagged and bent, the other broke. poor quality. i also had there heavy duty trackbar and bracket, i tore the bracket in two peices right at the seam. go with RE even if you have to get the AAL kit.

In my opinion it is sometimes better to spend a couple extra hundred dollars to get quality because in the long run when the cheap one breaks down you will end up buying the higher end one anyway. But maybe that is just how my luck goes. Some things you can get away with buying a cheaper product but IMO when it is suspension you are better off spending the extra cash.
