rubicon locker problem

we need help....rear locker was engaged and working until we heard a little pop. this happened while under a small load nothing real hard. after this pop the dash light for rear locker was still on but only right drive was functioning....then in 2 high the rear would not work unless the locker was engaged...we have an override that allows the system to function anytime....we drove home in 2 high and rear locked on right side.....any ideas out there for what might have happened?

Busted axle I'd assume. Could be a locker issue, though. You'll have to pull the cover and see what you can see.

I would say the same thing,

What size tires? Was Ice involved? Spinning on ice with sudden traction and big tires isn't too friendly on axle shafts.

Agree with diagnosis, I'd bet a broken axle.

Another option (and one I'd bet money on) is that you broke your locker. Similar symptoms as a broken shaft, just more expensive to fix.

take it to brent brown and have them warrantee it!!!
Every rear axle I have broken made horrible noises when driving(thump, thump as the axle shaft flopped around in the tube.) but on the other hand I have never seen a rubi locker break. heard rumors of a few but never have seen one myself. either way good luck, keep us posted.

My rear locker on my Rubi blew up just like yours. They are very weak units due to the little limited slip gears. Fortunatly the dealer didn't have a problem replacing it under warranty. If it happens to me again I am just going to go with an ARB or Detroit and be done with it.
