Rubicon TCase - Strong or not?

Anyone know how strong these are?

I just got to thinking, I'm doing this build up on 39"s, 5.13 gears and am curious if this case will last??

Personally, I think it will, since I'm not changing the engine or tranny (more HP/torque or a lower ratio in the trans). I'm also giving it larger gears with the larger tires, keeping the strain off the drivetrain.

But a 2 spd Stak is only $1800 ;)

all you need now is a buggy frame then you have a daily driver and a wheeler

I'd ditch it and the body and then nothing jeep can hold you back:p
I would sell it though and You could throw a good chunk at that stak:)

i know i wouldn't run it once moving past 38's .that being said there are plenty of people out there with big then 39's still rolling on the 231.your case is just a revamp version of the 231.

the problem i have with them are they are a chain driven case ,second it has a sun gear .as far as i'm concerned those are two reason to move to a real case that can take the abuse better and that is gear driven

The 241 is much stronger than the 231... It's 50% stronger (accoding to Advance Adapter). It's the same case used in 3/4-1 ton pick ups. In that instance, it's a modified 241 case (not 231), as the other doesn't have the 4:1 setup in it. But the only thing the same as the 231 is the 23 spline input and trans bolt pattern.

But I do agree with the chain to gear thing... My fear is busting a chain 1,000 miles from home....

Have you ever seen a Tcase chain break? I haven't. Heard of them skipping teeth when they get all crappy, but never actually breaking.

I'm sure it's happened, just wondering how common it really is. Can we assume that the 50% stronger 241 has a 50% stronger chain?

I've seen some broken chains but I've never been around one when it went. All the broken chains I've seen involved a lot more horse power than anyone is running in their rock rigs.

Never even heard of it happening, just a fear... but then again, if it did, I could just put it in 2HI and drive home. If I *had* to, I could remove the chain and then drive home. Wasn't thinking that at first....

The 241 has the same input shaft as the 231
The 241 has a 6 gear planetary compared to the 231's 3
The 241 has a much wider (2x?) chain than the 231
The 241 has 32 spline outputs compared to the 231 26 spline outputs

Hmmm. I have a friend in PA that worked on developing that case, I should call him and find out.

The 241HD in the Dodges is MUCH beefier than the little ones.

I understand there being two models - 241 and a 241HD (and of course the 241OR) model. Same with the 231, they came in both flavors as well.
