-Things to be sure to do/miss
-Best time of year?
-where to stay?
-any other suggestions?
-anyone want to come?

Let me know what you know,

I'm in for sure. I've been wanting to go for years. Don't know much yet about where to stay or what trails to do. Guess it's research time!!

Of course you are in!!

It was your idea! :D

I just need to get some firm plans started so I can get some cash together.

I am thinking the first week or so of June, the wife will be done teaching school...

depends on how much snow they get this winter.

what do you mean where to stay? you stay in the trees :D

James,
it is a good thing, I am one who can appreciate your "smart &ss-ness" :D

Have you run it?

I realize you camp while on the trail, but I have no clue about anything else.

What town to start in, what is a good hotel with lots of parking for me and the tow rig for before/after the trial, etc.

someone out there has to be good at this. ;)

Ask me about moab, I tell more than you want to hear. :greg:

Yeah I been there a time or two. ;)

you start at Loon lake off ice house road that is off highway 50.

you can park your tow rigs at the base of the loon lake dam.

it is possible to go all the way to the end and then just turn around and come back out.

I personally like to wheel in to a spot just before spider lake then set up a base camp. Then you can take day trips to every where without having to break camp everyday(pain in the ass IMO).

how many days there and back? From SLC

there are a couple of guides that say its a 4 day trip just for the trail...?

What are your thoughts?

you can take one day to drive out(11+ hrs) spend the night at the campground at the dam. wake up the next morning and wheel in and set up camp.

The spend 2 or 3 days just runnig the trail and enjoying your surroundings.

The last day wake up break camp and wheel back out to your towrig, then you can just boogie home or stop some where out in nevada and spend the night and finish the drive the next day.

If you are going to drive in and stay that night at one of the camping grounds off Icebox road, you had better make reservations. Last year every single camp ground was full and we went on a "nothing going on" weekend.

It was definitely worth going, but I don't see myself doing it again for a few more years.

We did the trail in two days and that seemed about right....

We stayed in Tahoe, then drove to Loon Lake the next morning. Drove into Spider Lake and stayed there a couple days. If you have an inflatable canoe or raft that place it a ball. A guy with us brought a canoe. We played in the Little Sluice for a day and on Spider Lake.

We drove from there to Rubicon Springs and stayed over night, then out Cadilac Hill. If you have a tow rig you need to go back out the way you came in (master of the obvious).

Take something to keep your food away from the bears, they got bad last year. Also you'll need to take a porta potti. It's like being on a river, what you take in, you take out, including the waste.

You can make it all the way through the trail in a day and back out if you're moving. I have friends that do that all the time. If you want to enjoy the scenery and the trail, plan on 3 days or more.

I'm going to make it back out there some time, but I want to do the Dusy again even more.

I think you might have more time because I thinking about late june. No snow and try and sneak in before the crowds of the jeep jamboree.

Keep the suggestions coming...

Quick question though, could you stay at tahoe and still enjoy the trial??? Drive in from the back side???

Don't know just curious.

Sure, you'd be hauling. If you did that you'd prolly only want to go into Spider Lake. You'd miss some scenery and the slabs between there and Loon Lake. You'd hit the Big Sluice, the True Old Sluice and could run the Little Sluice, although you may want to pass that one as you'd be as far from town as could be. Anything is possible.
