Safety Inspection laws *new and improved"

Found out this week that my truck does not pass utah safety inspection. Yes, my stock F250 was rejected because it has 285 instead of 265 tires. All of 20mm makes my truck worthy of the most ridiculous accessory of all. ......Mudflaps! the state should also require a matching pink d*ck to place on the roof to go with them.

here's the outlaw!

see law below:

Check for mud flaps when vehicle has been altered. Mud flaps are required on the rear wheels of all vehicles that are altered from their original OEM specifications. This includes the addition of larger tires and suspension lift kits. (UCA 41-6a-1633)
a. REJECT when:
1) Fenders do not cover the top 50% of the tire.
2) Mud flaps are not present when required.
3) Rear mud flaps are not as wide as the tire.
*NOTE: Rear mud flaps must be directly aligned with the tire or at least as wide as the tire.

enjoy!

FWIW, this is very well known, atleast I thought it was. Flaps of some sort are always required once tire size is changed at all. I agree with you about how ridiculous it is, most Super Duty pickups are illegal from the factory according to the law but because it's factory it makes it ok  I don't understand that at all.

hmmmp

Talked to the MGR and he said that the change came this year, and the UHP has recently been all over this. Who knows, but the little red and blue revenue generators will be busy with this one.

They may have just started enforcing it this year but it's been in place ever since they revamped the lift laws ~8-9 years ago (wow, has it really been that long???)

Wait, what does this mean? Does this mean the fender (or flare) only has to go 50% to the edge of the tire, instead of all the way to the edge of the tire like in the past? Wouldn't thins mean a big win for us? Tossing mud flaps on is easy. Wide fender flares bring the suck. Good trade.

I feel so much safer that a truck an inch over stock has flaps to control the horrors of those massive tires.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I was in an inspection station a few years back and some old guy was cussing about the same thing. He said he didn't even modify the truck and it was the same way it was when he picked it up from the dealer.

annnnnddddddd they are also raising the already high price of registration in order to put more "troopers" on the road.

Utah absolutely blows me away.

I think you've been red-flagged by the UHP Marcus. Better start paying your tithing..

Thats what they said about jenn's jeep. The UHP told the inspection station that they "been looking for this jeep for two years" and had it in their system.

Yes, it was all part of their master plan as they were patiently waiting two years to revoke her safety rather than just pull her over, and give her a ticket instead:rolleyes:

oh and the state already takes over 6%, so jes*s will have to wait for his 10:p

Sadly no, the verbage used is in direct reference to mud flaps. So if your looking at the back of the vehicle, the top 50% of the tire needs to be covered by either a fender (ie body) or mudflap.

Nope, still just means the height of the tire, not the width. So, no good thing here, we still have to cover the whole width of the tire. :(

Its amazing how many trucks i see on the road that have no mudflaps and are lifted like crazy. They have zero tire coverage and yet you still see them all over. I put 35's on my new truck and have already had uhp tell me at the gas station to get the flaps on it. He did it in a kind way (friend of the wifes) but told me he is cracking down on it. So yep tomorrow i will be cutting up an old truck bed mat and welding some angle iron on. I was just going to use some duct tape to hold them on but the wife hid it from me! :)

I'm sorry you are having so much difficulty complying with state law. It must be difficult.

While I do not agree with this law, it is the law nonetheless. Don't like it? Write your legislator, start a petition, hold a rally, stage a protest, write a letter to the editor, etc. With any of these options, you may want to hold back on the rooftop genitalia concept, as it could seriously cost the credibility of your cause. I hope this helps.

What is so wrong with regular old truck nutz?

When I worked at the dealer, we always had to put those stupid little mudflaps on the superdutys. The only good thing about them was that it paid pretty well for the time it took to install them.

I have to agree with you about revenue. I think the safety inspection program has little to nothing to do with public safety and a whole lot to do with revenue and power tripping.

When I did inspections, I remember a time when they changed the safety rules to say your vehicle could pass with only one functioning headlamp. However, one headlamp was still illegal due to some other statute, so you could get pulled over and ticketed for having a headlamp out, even though you passed safety. That was pretty ghey. They changed the safety rule back to two headlamps after less than a year.

You are such an anarchist Marcus

yeah, WTF? 10mm per side? I purposely left my towrig alone since I'd had enough BS with Jenn's jeep. Oh well, I'll get some OEM Ford ones so it doesn't look like it should have a "proud grampa" sticker on it

I did study bakunin when I was younger though:guilty:
