SAS Assistance

So, I've been thinking I want to do this for a while on my truck (in my sig). The problem is that I haven't touched a welder in 15 years, and really wasn't all that great back then anyway, so I really dont want to take this project on myself, as you may understand.

What it really comes down to is that I'm looking for someone, or even a shop, that is willing to do this for me. Of course, I'm hoping to keep it at a reasonable price (one shop near AF wanted $10k for a wagoneer axle + trailgear kit install -- that doesn't seem reasonable to me. Another place wanted to put a complete all pro SAS under for like $20k. Just been running into this type of thing all over the place).

I dont have any parts bought yet, as I was kinda trying to leave that open for whatever the person I could get to help me is familiar with. I do have ideas of course.

I'd be more than willing to help any way I can and I'm not unfamiliar with working on the truck (did ball joints, tie rods, half shafts, coil overs, upper control arms, etc on its current IFS), so I'm not completely useless, but its mostly just the welding and experience in something of this magnitude that has me overwhelmed.

As far as welding goes, I only have 115v to the garage, so its not likely going to be able to be done at my place anyway.

So, if anyone is looking to make a few extra $$, just let me know how much and see if we cant work something out. Or maybe a shop you know of that is fair and willing to do the work.

Ya know what, been thinking and there's no way I'll be able to do this for what I could just buy an already built truck for. Wont be as new, but it'll be nice to have a spare vehicle for anyway.

Thanks for reading though.

I may be able to help you out depending on your time frame. I need to get a few things done on my rig first before I take on another project. You can check out my build thread to help you gather some ideas.

I'm not in any type of hurry at all. Can you give me some type of estimate on how much ya think it'll run me to get it done? Would really like to get it done to my truck, but along the same lines, its a hard sell when trucks like Tacoman's are for sell for $3k and although much older, are already done and I wont mind dents quite a much.

And even if I do buy a truck, I guess nothing isn't stopping me from doing the SAS on my truck in the meantime as well. At least then I'll have a few different options for vehicles.

trail gear just came out with a great SAS kit for tacomas, and it's pretty cheap too. If you do everything but the welding, then I'm sure it'll save you a lot of money.

I can help you out with the welding and stuff, sas aren't too challenging. Extreme 4x4 does it in a half hour all the time :D

But I'm located in PG, and will give you a hand.

It would be cheaper than those shops and cheaper than buying a different truck for you to buy a welder and go take a class at the community college or DATC for a couple weeks/months, then go out and do it yourself. Plus you would have a new skill that is really valuable (as you have already learned). I'm planning to do this myself someday.

Amen to that.

There is alot involved in swaping in a axle in a tacoma, more than doing a older 1st or 2nd gen, like you have to mess with the steering column and get a different steering box among other things, most of the cost for doing this kind of swap is the parts. That said SAS'd taco's are sweet

sounds like you don't have to worry about a sas on the taco now that you have a sweet new rig.

I still plan to SAS my 02, but I'm going to put it off till I recover from taxes and drive my new toy on the trail. Sort of have the truck as something I can use while I build up the 02.
