Anyone have it in there wrangler? I want to put mine in but need to know if the hood is open enough for the signal. It recommends the roof, but I dont think they considered a soft top when writing that.

I've got XM in my TJ. I also have a hard top. It works great. I just stick the little magnetic antenna to the inside of the windshield frame, at the top, above the rear view mirror. When I put it in my truck i just throw the antenna up to the front of the dash. Get's the signal right through the windshield. I've never put my antenna on the outside of the vehicle. Never had a problem getting a signal either. I have the Skyfi 2. Hope that helps. Get XM. Sirius sucks. Check out channel 202. :greg:

My factory unit is right behind the drivers head on the cage. Works great, but I'm still trying to figure out the bikini thing.

you can put the antenna on the front cowl? (whatever that area is called between the hood and the windshield). XM you could put wherever you want, but sirius is a little more picky and you'll want it somewhere outside where it can get a more direct signal.

O&A are back from hiatis, huh? I wonder when they will have sex in a church again? I don't have XM, I have Sirius and have absolutely no issues with it or them. Paid for a lifetime membership when I had the system installed. Back then it was only $250 or so...:D

Been back for almost two years. They've almost been fired from XM a couple times already. Very good show, very uncensored. ;)

They should go over to Sirius... Sirius won't fire them... :) It's funny, Sirius is more about free speach then XM is, but XM has adult radio and Sirius doesn't.

Follow up:

I mounted it all ths weekend, ran the intena through the firewall, then to the front left fender near the hood catch, works great, I didnt however like the built in FM modulator, so I baught the direct connect wire to run into the front of the deck.

I haven't heard about Howard being pissed form being censored, but I know he's pissed because none of his listeners followed him to Sirius

I'm sure he's really pissed cashing that 500 million pay check. ;)

If sirius could put out some decent equipment and improve their reception, they would do so much better. Most people prefer their programming, but XM is just soooooo much better at everything else. Product, positioning, distribution, all aspects of marketing.....Sirius isn't even in XM's league.

good ideas, poor poor execution in my book.

 I don't listen to Howard, so I wouldn't know. But I do know that XM censors their content more than Sirius does. So maybe Sirius censors it more than Howard would like, I don't know.

Last I heard over 3 million people signed up for Sirius just because of Howard. That number is old, and before he actually went on the air. So I'm sure it's more than that now.... Sirius loves Howard! :D

I don't really have a problem with the reception. Yeah, sometimes it will blink when I'm way in the open, and other times it will work great without blips when I'm in a forest of trees, in a deep narrow canyon. It's wierd....

From what I understand their new equipment (not sure which or what) has a buffer in it so this doesn't happen anymore. Their new equipment will also 'record' content for later listening. Say your favorite song, etc. play it over and over again.

The record feature is something XM had 18 months ago. As for the buffer, I'm not sure about that. I'm a bit skeptical because you can't buffer a signal that is not coming in in the first place.

The new equipment you're thinking of is the S50. Kind of a cool piece with some pretty cool features. We've had some mixed results---lots of them coming back and we've had to replace both of our display pieces a couple times since it came out in November. Again, awesome idea, bad execution. I don't know what else is around the corner because neither do their reps.

Also, FWIW Sirius has a total of 3.3 million subscribers (as per my last numbers). Stern didn't ad 3 million--thats just what they have total. XM is about double that.

I have both XM and sirius. I like Sirius' content better, but I get frustrated with it cutting out in heavy forest and around cliffs, and when I try and order food at a drive through or get gas....places XM doesn't go out.

You would know better than me, isn't this your job to know? I have an old Kenwood setup, I would guess Ver1 of when Sirius hit the air. The rest of my 'knowledge' is hear-say.

It wouldn't be difficult to buffer the signal. At some point it has to come in, or you would never hear anything.

I do agree it does cut out at wierd times, where you would think it should work.

I've often thought about upgrading and putting this setup in the Jeep. But it sounds like I'll sit pat for a while, and maybe find the same setup used for the Jeep! :D

ya, I'm supposed to know some of this stuff.

The sirius tuners have come a long way in the past few years. Still have a way to go though.

I'm not that knowledgable about how the signal is transmitted....seems like if your signal is cutting in and out, it won't matter how you buffer it. Eventually it's going to cut out---kinda like skip protection on cd players. If it's bad enough, eventually it's going to skip. Maybe they can send it faster than you can play it though.....?
