School me on Synthetic rope

Well, the plus side is that your rope will be ready to go. If you buy from an industrial supplier, you might only get just the rope and you will have to braid the loop end in unless they are willing to do it for you. I just tie mine in a knot.

I get stuff from OKOffroad all the time. Great place to work with. Never have had a bad experance.

I saw these guys online and called them to ask about the rope and he said because they are back ordered about 2 weeks on the slimline fairleads he would give me free shipping on the fairlead and the rope.

I think I will be getting the 5/16 x 100 Hunter Green

5/16. You can get more of it on the spool, and if (when) it does break you can just splice it back together.

Now wouldn't it be wiser just to get 100 feet or whatever of 3/8 and not be waiting for it it break over 5/16? Or are you just stating that 5/16 is good for his weight and syn rope will fray through sometime on either 5/16 or 3/8 and to not waste the money;)

For what it is worth the guys over at http://www.okoffroad.com/stuff-winchrope.htm treated me great I bought my line and I was going to buy a fair-lead at the same time but he did not have the one I wanted in stock so he gave me free shipping and $10.00 off the line. he is very friendly and has great customer service.

Mike at Summit Machine is offering me about the same price but including a free hook and fairlead. But thanks for the suggestion!!

Good questions! I am ready to order just need to decide 3/8x100 or 5/16x125.

It only breaks through abrasion, as far as I've seen, and that's going to affect 3/8 of 5/16. I doubt you can fit 100 feet of 3/8 on an XD900i, too. That's just a hunch though. I'd stick with 5/16. Either way, learn how to splice it.

I have "heard" that if the rope slacks and then suddenly goes tight the "jerk" will break it too, and that sucks. Being able to rebraid it back together is very nice though :)

Nope, the XD900i will fit 100' of 3/8" just fine, as will an XD9000i. ;) We use 3/8" all the time--not so much for the strength (even though that's a bonus) but because it's available in all sorts of colors where the 5/16" only comes in blue.
