IMO, and others may disagree, I think doing much to the 231 is a waste. If you put forth the effort to double a case then you should atleast get twinsticks out of it
Benefits to a doubler:
gear selection-I can use 1:1, 2:1, and 4:1. If I pay the $1K to get a 3:1 gear set in my 203 I will be able to have 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, and 6:1. Sometimes its too much but having gear selection is nice for trail rigs. I can also do all these combos in fwd, rwd, and 4wd. Again, its about selection. None of the other cases, even the Atlas can do all this. They will have high and low, nothing in between.
cost-If I had just about any other case with 4:1 I would be into it atleast $1000. The doubler I am into the cost of the doubler kit (about $750) and with that I have 32 spline outputs, twinstick, all gear driven cases.
Downsides to a doubler:
overall size length-the thing is DAMN long no matter how you look at it. Also, with my rear case clocked so its flat it sits right up under my seat, literally and inch or two from the bottom of my seat. The setup is HUGE.
weight-the thing weighs close to a metric TON
...if you try to lift this thing on your own you WILL get a hernia...
I dont really regret doing the doubler, but if I were to do it again I would prolly save up for a little longer and buy an Atlas or maybe in the future the new Stak case so you get all the benefits of a doubler in a single case
