its the cheapest way to get brakes on a Rockwell axle after loosing the drums.

It is before all the gear reduction so the brakes work VERY well. It will throw you threw the windshield if your not carefull.

They have disadvantages to tho. They get hot very easy, some people have problems with the chattering, if you break a pinion (ha ha ha) you dont have brakes. It is also hard on the pinion seals since they are constantly heating and cooling.

Im happy with them tho

I still need to get mine on for the e-brake in the crew.

Looks like it works well. Now Im really itching to get the front of the toy finished!

Thats interesting, I never would have thought that was actually for stopping the vehicle, I thought it was more of an e-break.

So you did a 3 point rear? How is that working for you so far? Is it stable enough for higher speed trails?

you would think the gold paint would hit you in the face but it is deceiving in a couple pics. Ya there is four links and they are dual triangulated.

The Scout is pretty low geared so its top speed is honestly about 45 but it will be PLENTY stable to do that. I just cant hit the rear steer at speed or I will do cartwheels..lol

Disk brakes for your Rockwell?

Hey Cheston, I have a 2-speed rear differential from a school bus that has huge disk brakes. Maybe they could be adapted to your one of your Rockwells? If I catch up to you in Fort Bridger this weekend, we can talk it over.

The Scout is looking really good Cheston! Have you considered using a taller coil so you could get more compression in the rear? I know that the ultimate plan is to put on some FOAs or maybe some of the Air shock/coil-overs. Are you happy with the results for now? The 4 link looks SOLID! Have you tested it under acceleration to see what it does for planting the power and squatting or lifting the rear of the Scout?? Just curious as to how you set it up with the calculations?!?!
I look forward to seeing it on the trail in person brother!

Very cool Cheston!

I'm still coveting your wheels.

If you picked one up you wouldnt. Next time they are dismounted I want to weigh them with the rubber insert. Im guessing over 100 lbs ea

I do love the way they look tho!

Thanks for all the compliments! And no.....I will never be done building this thing. Some people build a rig, get sick of it, sell it, buy another and start over. I just get sick of this and try to change something on it, then get sick of it again, then change something else. :greg:

To give you an idea, my wheels, one piece, non-beadlock, no insert, 1/2" plate center, are 68lbs each. Yours seem about 50lbs per half...

it does seem to have to much anti squat. When I powerbrake the body lifts up. Not TONS but more than I would like. It didnt seem to do it much when just flooring it.

I can lift the lower links up to lower my anti squat number but Im thinking I might install a center limit strap and wheel it a couple times to see if I like it or not.

Theoretically it would plant the front wheels down when climbing but I dont know.

That wouldn't exactly be a bad thing would it?
