Typical 4.0L Jeep ticking. Not sure if it's a sticking lifter, collapsed lifter, just a Jeep thing that I don't want to understand, yada, yada, yada

Sea Foam may help, but also running a quart of ATF just before an oil change will help as well.

Be careful putting A.T.F. in your motor it has very little viscosity. I have done it but only at an idle you could easily trash a good motor. after all it is not intended for this purpose.

When I worked in an auto parts store we sold out of sea foam every week. It's something that old timers will always swear by.
I know in the diesel crowd several guys run ATF in their fuel for lubrication of the injection system

Burn Seafoam in my 10 yr old Merc 175 EFI ever since it was new. 280 hrs and still runs like new. I also use it in anything twostroke. Chainsaws,leaf blowers, etc. Use it in my Polaris Ranger and John Deere mowers. Dump a can of it in my Jeep, Avalanche,GMC pickup 200,006 miles on it and wifes Blazer a couple times a year. Good stuff!

These days with diesel getting drier and drier, you just about have to.

The newer ATF can actually kill a diesel engine slowly, the higher heat and friction resistance make it very tough for it to burn off.

I add 4 ounces of good 2-stroke oil to every new bottle of diesel additive, then add the recommended dose of additive to every tank fill up. That way I am using a product intended to lubricate as well as burn cleanly in the system. Several years of doing this has caused zero problems. My truck is a 2003 Dodge Cummins High Output diesel, which were notorious for losing the injector pump.

This is what a lost of folks do, keeps the IP lubricated and everything burning right. Which additive do you use?

Right now it's Howe's, but I used CS before. Have not seen any difference between the 2 products. Originally I used Husqvarna chainsaw oil, but I am using Mercury outboard oil now. Both are good products.

Ok, I generally don't consider myself a village idiot but I'm beginning to lean that way: One set of instructions tells me to pour the sea foam into the valve cover, then another states to pour it into the PCV valve line. What the heck is the darn difference? The PVC valve is attached to the top of the valve cover. I'm clearly missing something or all that marijane and acid I did in the 70's is beginning to catch up to me.

It can be used in BOTH the intake/pcv system and the crank case....

I've used SeaFoam several times in the past with good results. That said I tried it on my old Subaru Loyale and while it did clean it out the catalytic converters pluged up almost instantly
