ARBs are the standard in selectable lockers and probably have the best track record when installed correctly. But you have to ask yourself if its worth locking up a D35? That's alot of $$ to put into a marginal axle.

Like Jay said ARB's are the most common selectable locker. Selectable or not I would be scared to death locking up a D35. I would save up and upgrade to a D44 or 8.8. Heck with the money an ARB would cost you should be able to pick up a used D44.

JMHO

P.S. I've broken an open D35 on the dirt road heading to Little Moab. Sheared the bolts holding the carrier to the ring gear. Not fun having to drive home in 4HI with a locked front.

There is always going to a super 35 kit. Its polishing a turd but will work if your not going to big and want to stay away from an axle swap.

What year of Wranger do you have and how what tire are you going to run?

:rofl::rofl:

I broke a Toyota 8" R & P @ Little Moab But not the shafts!
But i'd also been in there messin around with it and did'nt Reassemble it correctly.
Shafts are my only concern, unless there's somthing i'm missing here?

I Agree i could prolly get a D 44 for the same price as an ARB, But then how can i get locked up?
This thing WILL be street legal(ish)

This is a 87 Cherokee.
Tires will be 33's
I'd like some 10.50's but moneys always a factor so i'll prolly end up with 33x12.50R15's.

This will work as i've seen it work before.

I almost have the money to do this.
I was just hoping to save a little of the kids colledge fund by going E-Locker as it seems to be cheeper that the air.

Looking @ the Eaton E- Locker .........Or the Auburn ECTED.?
Just can't seem to find a local dealer. Or any feedback.

Worst case, I will go ARB's, And i understand the week axle shafts. ( I don't need advice on that)
Just the best deal on Selectable lockers.

But totally appreciate all the input so far.

You definatly want to go either full spool or selectable, so in inclement weather you can turn the locker off, had a friend roll a zj because of a non-selectable locker, they can behave unpredictably. As far as lockers go, I'm not a big fan of the ARB, I've seen too many people with broken ones... I'd go elocker, but that's just my .02.

Full Spool?
That's the very opposite of a selectable.
I've been running a spool in my toy, but that's not why i rolled it.
I agree with the E- Locker over the air, I just can't find anyone to sell me a GOOD two.:p

You could go with an OX lock on back and a LocRite ($450) in front if you do not want to go with ARB. Do a Super 35 with Chromo axels and you should be fine. If you do find you are breaking front axels or joints then you can change out your front end and only be out the $450 for the LocRite. Just another option.

I have Eaton Elockers in my jeep (d44 axles) and they work great. My son in law has one in the back of his xj and it works well for him but the ected in his front 30 has given him a lot of trouble.

Those Auburn Ected's are not really lockers, just limited slips that take more pressure to make them slip. I guess it would also depend on what types of trails you want to do. I ran ARB's front and rear in a D30/D35 in my Wrangler for about 3-4 years with 35's. I never broke a shaft. I had to swap rear axles when the D35 housing itself broke. If it were me, I would throw in a D44 or Ford 8.8 in the rear and an ARB up front for now, and then you can lock the rear later when you get some more cash. It is of course always easier to do everything at once, but we all know that $$$ doesn't always allow that.

The weak area with the D35 is not so much the shafts, as it is the housing. So if you put in the super 35 kit, you are then making the weak link the housing and gears. There is really no way to make a D35 strong enough, even if you put $1500 into it.

If you are hell bent on locking up that 35, put a lockrite in it and save your coin for a better axle.

I can build you a semi float D44/D60, TJ width, for pretty darn cheap.

As for E Lockers, the only Dana axles they are made for are D44 and D60, so those are out. Also, they will only warranty them with stock size tires.

OX lockers are junk. There are only about 3 people I have ever talked to (on or off) the trail that likes them. All of them I have seen on the trail have not been functioning and the owners hated them. I take that back, I just saw one on the trail recently that worked, but he does have to keep adjusting the cable.

ARB's are much better... I've only seen a couple not functioning, and it was becuase of poor hose routing (too close to exhaust, getting hung up on rocks, etc).

I also sell most of the lockers out there ;) I'm in WA, so no sales tax for you :D

Could you PM me your "pretty darn cheap" please.
This is an xj by the way.
Thanks Wayne.

Dave

Shop time is $450 on a used housing (because I need to strip the housing of brackets, etc) and $300 for new (because the housing is already prepped). Parts and shipping are additional. So depending on what you want, and how fancy you get, you could be about $1k to your door. As for the labor, it includes everything right down to crating the axle.
