To start off, HUGE thanks to Dusty and Laura Sexton for having everyone out to their place in Kamas. I think I can speak for everyone in saying it was a super good time!!!

So for me being a somewhat new guy to UT and not currently owning a bronco I was somewhat skeptical of what to expect when rolling into a big name shop focusing on Ford while towing in a jeep based buggy. Not to mention I've seen a couple Ultra 4 races that Dusty competed in and that level of motorsports can be a bit intimidating as well. I’m here to tell ya I had no issues at all... as I pulled in there were several cool rigs lined up on the driveway already. I was welcomed by all and was promptly directed to drop the rig, park the trailer and come grab a burrito & breakfast beverage. I got my rig all situated and started a little mingling out on the back porch, I’m a bit shy when meeting new people like this, but I felt like I was around some good, like minded people and enjoyed the laid back environment and super cool surroundings (great views of the mountains, cool rigs, Sweet freaking shop, very chill house and patio environment).

I was told I should be good to drive the buggy down to the car show as its only a mile or two as long as I was in the middle of the pack... that worked out great, I’m sure I had them portals and stickies up to ~50mph hahaha. We all took our spots out front and proceeded to check out the car show. Now, I knew I wasn’t in for any hardcore wheeling that day, but that was cool with me... being the gearhead I am and to have never been in that area yet, I just couldn't pass it up. My buddy Sean and I walked around checking out the cars and just relaxing a bit from the typical work week grind. I couldn't have asked for a better way to pass the time before a trail ride!!!

Everyone gathered and we headed out of town to go hit the trails. I think everyone in town really enjoyed seeing the convoy of offroad trucks cruising thru town like a bit of parade. The trails provided us a chance to start the actual poker run first draw. Later when we get back to the shop for dinner there will be prizes of all sorts for winning hands. At this time we were deep into the trails and when we stopped everyone took a bit to talk and wait for any stragglers to take catch up. The views were amazing and the weather was super nice out too. I’m not exactly sure of the trails we were on, but it was mentioned that there were tons of mountain fire roads all thru out the area that provide endless amusement of UT back country exploration.

We made it to the top of the mountain and broke out some lunch and misc snacks... I noticed that I subsequently knew a few people (or people knew me) off RME and it was nice to effortlessly joke around and bs with everyone. It was cool to see that the more you interact with people here on RME, your pretty much guaranteed to run into them on the trail at some point.

the weather didn't look so good off in the distance, but besides about a 10 min rain it didn't ruin the day or the trip in any way... I was I think the only one without some sort of canopy and I can't complain too much about what materialized (disposable poncho's saved the day)

We worked our way back down the mountain enjoying the views and a bit of lightening in the background. At the base of the canyon there was a bit of a downpour for a mile or so back to the shop, but I don’t think anyone melted so not too much of an issue. By time we all got parked on the Dusty and Laura's property the rain had subsided and we did a bit of thrashing on a couple rock gardens by the shop. It was super cool to see everyone step up and do a little wheeling in 4 low. After that we headed in to the shop for a banquet style dinner and to check out what all the poker hands were. I didn't stay too much longer, but did hang out to exchange numbers with some folks, talk about future trail rides and to once again say thanks to the Sexton family for being awesome hosts!!!

Thanks man, you've said it time and time again.... Just get your butt out on the trail (or in this case to an event)

from my own perspective I felt it was a great turnout, but was surprised there were not more people there. This was close to SLC valley, an easy run, scenic, breakfast/BBQ, Prizes, car show, optional camping... What more could ya ask for!!!

I give big props to Mitch for brining his Ford truck to hang with everyone... his "Bronco Script" project may not be complete yet, but he is still willing come out. I know its gotta be super hard not having your rig there especially with all the cool fords that were represented.

In addition the Utah Bronco Club president Steve St Clair had an issue with his front 60/TcaseFlange/Trans pan on the way to the shop and was out for the whole trip too!!! He grinned and took it like a man not letting it ruin his trip by choosing to ride shotgun with fellow wheelers (and I think I even saw him in a chevy there for a second...lol)

Excellent report Ryan. I didn't know a many people there either, but it was fun meeting everyone. It was a great day and Dusty sure put on one heck of a spread. The wheeling was more of a mountain ride but the scenery was spectacular and that was way more fun for Janeal, who usually doesn't come wheeling with me. It was very close to the beauty of the Silverton/Ouray Colorado area. Thanks again Dusty for the fantastic day and hospitality. Kudos to Sexton Offroad.

Very nice write up Ryan, wish we could have come up later, we passed you in the full size green and white Bronco as you were pulling out.

And thank you for being one of the only people in the other than me that has taken a picture of my Scout. It looks so happy among running vehicles, maybe one day it will be finished.

Awesome write up Ryan. Thanks for that and all the great pictures. I really enjoyed meeting you and everyone else that was able to make it up. After some more Burritos everyone that stayed overnight ended up going to the mountains on Sunday as well I will get the pictures up when I can grab them from Laura.

Thank you Sexton Offroad for a great event. We had a great bunch of folks there in many different rigs. The food was awesome, the scenery was awesome, and the rock course in Dustys yard was a blast. The kids had a great time getting to rock crawl for the first time there also.

Nice write up buddy!
Told ya it would be a blast!
We bronco guys are pretty welcoming to others :) lol

Taking the f150 out was cinda nice for the wife's first time out and was able to haul some passengers too. Lol
apart from needing some lower gears in that thing coming down the mountain and getting a little to happy with the skinny pedal on some of those down hill turns lol (almost went off the side of the mountain on one) the ole girl did grate.

And I got the bronco home finally safe and sound and can go to bed without worrying for once and start working on it!!

Thanks again dusty and Laura for another grate time and grate food.
Cant wait for next year!!!

We haven't decided what happened first, maybe the r/p in the front 60 or maybe the yoke breaking on the atlas, that caused the cascading failure and the bloody mess on the freeway when the hole got knocked in my deep tranny pan. Either way, we knew we'd still have a great time in spite of the big yellow boat anchor now in tow. I gutted it out and we took my pickup on the trail too. Once we got back to Sexton's the fun really started. Wayne aka 4554x4 had his big orange Blazer out for its maiden voyage after a massive rebuild project. He found a couple minor bugs but it ran good enough to easily conquer the rock gardens there at the shop. After that he handed the keys to the kids and 3 boys ages 10, 12, and 14 all got to drive, even on the rocks. Of course it's auto and was in doubler low, but they couldn't have been happier.

Many thanks to Laura and Dusty for another fun event.

Well, the moral of the story is: If you run your t-case dry, expect breakage. Oh, and if your going really fast, expect a lot of breakage.
Many thanks to Sexton Offroad for helping get my rig back on the road already!
