So I would like to bend some 16 gauge, has anyone made their own sheet metal brake? It needs to be able to bend 24" in width.

Have you seen the one down at RL? From everything I have read, 16 gauge at that width is pretty tough/expensive for a home built setup.

Maybe I should just find someone to bend me some sheets.

ha!! That one is actually mine. Nice little brake, real handy for a lot of things, but it won't bend a full 24" of 16 gauge. Maybe if you torch it first and get it hot...but not cold. If you forced it I'm afraid it would tweek it (the brake, not the metal.) Could you have Kingdon Sheetmetal bend it for you?

I can't find that issue right now but basically they used scrap 2 x 3 tubing for the frame, a 20 ton bottle jack from harborfreight, some return springs and then for the dies the machined the upper out of 1" solid stock I think to a 50 deg angle and for the lower also used 2 peices of solid stock bolted togeather and machined to accept the upper die. I made a picture on paint.... but it is too big a file...I'll work on it.
