Shift kit.

I haven't found much but was wondering if anyone had any experience with the transgo shift kit for the 42RLE trans. My pan is dented up enough that it's leaking so I'm going to do a all in one shot and change fluid and pan and figured if it's worth it I'll have that done since I'll be there anyways.

About the most I've learned through a bunch if research is yes they help a little but not to expect anything like what you get when you do it to older transmissions. Was just hoping someone here would have some experience.

No personal experience, but here are two member comments from JeepForum:

"the transgo shift kit isn't a performance mod like you're thinking in terms of muscle cars. its more of a fix to correct problems associated with the 42RLE and is supposed to make it shift more smoothly, vs that feeling where the 42RLE doesn't know what gear or lock/unlock state it wants. it requires dropping the throttle body and drilling some holes, and placing a little ball bearing and some springs."

"I've installed the Transgo kit in my wife's 03. It's involved and messy but not too bad. The instructions are a bit of a joke - more sales pitch than directions, but it was sufficient to get the work done. Also, you don't use all the parts which can further the confusion. What you fix depends on your sypmtons.

Definitely a repair kit, not a performance kit like the Transgo in my LX 5.0.

My wife's TJ had the frequent limp mode issue and the kit did correct it."

Yeah. I already came across that page. Thanks though. Guess I'll the let the cost of install be the deciding factor.

Are you having some sort of "problem" you're hoping to "fix" with this kit? Or were you just looking for firmer shifts as in a traditional shift kit? Electronic transmissions can be instructed to shift firmer/faster as evidenced by the 4L80E in my Grand Prix, although that required an entire aftermarket controller (the TCI EZ-TCU). In your case, I doubt you'd want to go to that extent... but maybe you do?

If you're not having any problems and are simply looking for longevity, I'd only suggest you install a new deeper fluid pan (if one is available) and also a large fluid cooler mounted in front of the condenser.

It just seems a little lazy. If that makes sense. Not really trying to fix anything for make better. Thanks for the input. I'll just skip this idea
