so my wife says my 93 4door suzuki sidekick is too bouncy for her liking and she doesnt want to drive it to oregon for my younger sisters wedding in august, but i want to finally take it wheeling there with some samurai friends. so some suggestions i have had have been to replace my front struts and rear shocks and get stiffer ones.

my question is how do i tell what length of shock i need?

I have a 3" calmini lift + ~2" of coil spacer lift for a combined total of about 5" front and rear.

stiffer struts may actually make it too "bouncy" for her. Is she complaining about the ride being too harsh, or too squishy? What's your tire pressure at?

I'm pretty sure you have a 2" calmini suspension lift with a 2-3" body lift.

Whatever you have, we'll get it worked out for ya to get you out wheeling in Oregon.

I upped the rating on my tacoma struts thinking I would have a winch and bumper in the future. t never happened and it was way more harsh and bouncy of a ride than before. It was bearable but it was definitely noticeable. Maybe it's your wheelbase. :D

shes complaining about it being too harsh. havent checked tire pressure but i guess i could check that when i go in to work on wednesday. i guess ill have to check again but i was told it was a calmini 3" lift that has 2" spacer pucks up front too and some custom coil spacers in the rear the previous owner made out of pipe that i believe are actually close to 3", suspension angles down from the rear, and i have a 2" body lift.

tire pressure has alot of play in the way the ride is suspension wise?

haha ive been telling the wife that i need to get me an extended cab pickup and that would fix it ;). tired of hauling parts around to different people in my sidekick, someday ill get me a pickup but it would probably be when im done with school.

High tire pressure will cause stiff sidewalls and a harsh ride.
High spring rate will cause a stiff or harsh ride as well.

Stock or aftermarket coils up front? If aftermarket Im betting they are stiffer to help get the lift.

Also, increased link angles in the rear will also make it rougher ride.

Thanks steve. Aftermarket coils up front. I really need to redo the rear links since I noticed a month or so ago that the rear of the calmini lift was never added which gives you new lower links and a new wishbone link up top, all stock ones look to have a need of replacement and the only thing on the rear linkage that has been changed is a 2" spacer between the differential and the upper wishbone link.

Lowering tire pressure should help a lot. You could probably go even lower than 30 since your rig weighs 11 lbs.

I run 30 in the mtrs on the TB, on my wifes truck, 4500lbs or so, her 37" truxus muds wore great with 22 in the front and 20 in the rear.
