Work done: new spring perches, new shock mounts welded up
Time for completion: hour or two
Relative cost: low!
Quality of work: TOP NOTCH
I messed up my 14bolt a little bit, and found a complete replacement on KSL, woot. But like all military 14bolts, the perches were wrong, and GM left the shock mounts hanging way below the axle. So I ordered up some Teraflex perches and mounts, and after meeting with the crew at Black Widow last Friday about a bumper, decided to give them what little work I could-- urgent replacement axle work! thinking I would need my Blazer to get back to work Friday.
Brought the axle in about... uh, early, like before they open. But Skippy the Weldor was there waiting for me, which was awesome, because I didn't say I'd be there first thing or anything, just that I'd be in and in kind of a hurry. So they have some psychic ability as well. That's good in a shop!
We hauled the 14bolt out of the Love Boat (because it's not an angry Burb like the other one ) and set it up. Perches and mounts were sliced off, and the paint-removing wonder disc applied to the tubes, rendering them shiny and wonderful, and good to weld to. The perches and mounts were welded inside AND out, which I dug even though it's overkill. Overkill is good!
I was not expecting as much attention to detail and making it "right" on this job-- just a simple deal, but they took the time and treated like a high-dollar fab job. So that made me happy, and I feel like I got a quality job at a decent price, performed very well, and that Black Widow went out of their way to get it done quick.
Black Widow gets an A+, plus they support U4WDA. I saw a lot of names on the job board, so get your rigs in there, ya slackers!!!
And as soon as I can get back to work I'm definitely going back for a bumper. Thanks guys!!
pics tomorrow, axle's buried under stuff in the Burb.
