Ok i have a 85 Ford F-250 diesel. I believe it has a Dana 60 full floater.

A long time a go i was told i need to replace the pinion bearing and seal since it was leaking, and the driveline could move up and down and side to side. I never got it done since money was tight. :D

Well now it's time to get it done latley it has started to growl, and then two days ago it would kind of pop at low speeds.

I took the back cover off and it looked like someone had a bad case of the run's teh oil was crap brown. :-\

I don't know if a whole rebuild is really neccasery (sp) maybe a pinion bearing an seal?

I've called a couple shops and it seems they want a lot to do the work. Dose anyone know a good shop that will give me a good deal ?

If i could sell it i would. :D

What kind of prices were you getting quoted on the rearend? If you're in there to change to the Pinion bearing, IMO it is best to change them all (carrier bearings too) while you're in there to save money down the road from tearing into it again.

I've tried to sell it no one really wanted it. :D

It's a regular cab long bed, 4x4 I think the trans is a T-19 4 speed I think the t-case is a 435?

I'd like to have the whole thing done over like you said but thats just more money. I think the carrier bearings and pinion bearings are all that needs to be done. But i'm not sure.

Getting those done is pretty much the whole thing. A master overhaul kit would have everything you need to replace it all, they're around $100 from Randy's R&P.

I was thinking Six States in Orem since it's just down the road from me.
I'd call around for quotes first, some of the quotes I've heard from 6-states were pretty high as were their Master Overhaul kits. You know you can't go wrong w/ RockLogic, and I think they match or will beat competitor's prices... and it's always nice to have it done closer to home. There are other shops up my way in Clearfield and Northward that can do the work also, but it'd probably be the same price as everyone tries to be close to the same market costs......

I've been quoted at $650  to do the whole thing. from two diffrent shop's. I think thats alot of money but what do i know.

I live in Orem so anything closer is better but, if Rocklogic can do it for a good price then that could get me to go up to SLC.

Like you said a overhaul kit is only about $100 or a little more.

so that's $650 - 6.5% (tax) = $607.75 - $100 (Kit) - $30(fluids) - $25 (if shipping on parts is needed) = $452.75 is almost twice the cost of labor you should be paying..........IMO

Thats what i thought. I called Six States They figured that with a used ring & Pinion (if needed) over haul kit and carrier (if needed) and the labor it would get to $650.Thats if the housing is ok.

You can get Yukon gears for around $150 new....~$250 for labor is what I would pay/charge............I'd pay for used gears $75 max
what's your gear ratio?

good idea
You can call Chris at 825-6577 for used gears and labor too, in Clearfield though, so probably not worth the gas money.......
