Hi Teams,
Here are the proposed SXS rules for 2014. Comments are appreciated.

Classes may be divided on tire size at 27.5” depending on how many vehicles register. Example, 27.5 and lower is one class and 27.5 – 32” is the other class.

Tire Size – 32” maximum.
Weight Limit – 1800 lbs.
Drive Train – Vehicle must be four wheel drive with stock transfer case and stock differentials.
Safety – D.O.T. helmets and functional seat belts required. Five point 3" race harness is recommended.

Thanks,
Craig

might i suggest that it must be
1) a vin'ed production vehicle
2) originally vin'ed as a UTV/non highway vehicle

just to make clear other sorts of buggies/purpose-built rigs can't slide in under the rules. without this many other vehicles could sand-bag down into the side-x-side class

"hey, my purpose built buggy is under 1800lbs, has stock transfer case/and d60 axles (they were "stock" in something). I can put 32" tires on it and compete in the side x side class"

just thinking what might come up

personally I don't see an issue with purpose built rigs. A few thing that puts utv's in the same ball park is ifs, irs, tire size and a cvt style automatic transmission and a motorcycle style 4 stroke engine. If someone build a rig from the ground up using Kawasaki diffs and apex snowmobile engine a rzr transmission and 31" tires I don't see it having much if any advantage to say a built xp1000?

Being limited to stock configurations would be a limitation compared to a person who built a rock-crawling specific rig.

Seeing as how each, and every factory utv was designed, and built to serve many proposes, and not just rock-crawling

and several extremely modified to be dedicated rock rigs. Point out one advantage a custom chassis could have over a modified factory chassis. No solid axles, no truck or car based drive train.

Just make a rule for IFS only or must be manufactured and offered for sale to the general public. I think people are taking it to far.

Lets have our first event and take from there.

you guys are making this too hard, its simple limit the size demensions aka width, wheel base to the largest UTV on the market, The class should be set up just like the other rock crawling class, only can have readily available engines that are a 1000cc or smaller, drivetrain is any readily available transmission and diffs from a UTV and of course tire size limited to 32 inch tires or what ever and stock style suspension set up aka no solid axles. The point is a different chassis or bigger motor is a choice not a decided advantage. Crap how many OSRC's have been won by 4 cylinder toyota's! You dont want to limit the guys who really want to do this. Saying that you dont want people to build a custom UTV just for rock crawling is backwards, we do want people to do that. Saying that you cant have a purpose built UTV for rock crawling and that it needs to be a multi purpose UTV is like saying you can only run a pro 4 short car course in OSRC for lengends class or something along those lines. The chassis should be totally open if they are with in the above guide lines. There is my thoughts haha

Hi Teams,

Here are the revised proposed SXS rules for 2014 based on team comments.

Classes may be divided on tire size at 27.5” depending on how many vehicles register. Example, 27.5 and lower is one class and 27.5 – 32” is the other class.
Tire Size – 32” maximum.
Weight Limit – 1800 lbs.
Vehicle width limited to 70”
Drive Train – Vehicle must be four wheel drive with stock transfer case and stock differentials for SXS vehicles.
Winch - Recommended.
Safety – D.O.T. helmets and functional seat belts are required. Five point 3" race harnesses is recommended.
Only one SXS can be entered per driver. Example, driver can’t enter one SXS into the rock crawl and also enter a different SXS for Rock Cross to be scored for the overall event winner.

Thanks,
Craig

I say we let just about everybody run this year, then if its a problem and we see we need restrictions in the future we can make adjustments for the next year
