Silly Washington....

Some of you that know me, know how I feel about the Government up here... For those that don't know, don't ask :D Bunch of commy bastages, is what they are.

Anyway.... Turns out that law enforcement have to wait the 5 days when purchasing a new carry weapon! WTF!??!??? Turns out Washington state does not give 'immunity' to LEO's to carry a concealed weapon - even though they HAVE to. So if you want to go down and buy a gun, and walk out with it, you have to have a ~$60 concealed weapons permit. Again, WTF!????! OH! and the best part, if you go down and pay the ~$60, they grant the permit on the spot after verifying your credentials.

So, other than WA being greedy for ~$60, what could possibly be their logic?? Do they seriously think a LEO should have to wait 5 days? I mean come on...If you are able to carry a concealed weapon 24x7 anyway (and on planes, regardless of duty status!), what difference does it make if you have a permit? What, do they think the LEO could have some bad stuff on their record (you know, the type of stuff that wouldn't get you fired or prevent you from being hired) dumbasses.... :cody:

If I read that right Law enforcement through out the country are able to carry concealed. SR218 says that any full time certified officer can carry anywere in the united states (concealed).

So if they say they have to get a CC permit they are wrong. New York was stopping and detaining Officers of other states that were carring concealed in there state.

There are some wealthy officers now due to New york

Local LEOs can carry anywhere but on a plane...unless they have a legit reason and a letter from their Chief. Fed LEOs just have to present their creds to fly armed...

:D The only requirement for federal, is that you introduce yourself to the captain - they would like to know who is carrying and where you are sitting/look like in case your needed. Same requirements for a US Marshall....

Depending on where we fly and where we are staying (sometimes its just easier to leave the gun at home and not worry about it's security), my wife will usually be packing. It's much easier for her to go through security with a gun, than it is for me with a 2 year old. So I'll load her up with carry on, diaper bag, etc. :D

Whatcha lookin' at doin'? The USPIS is a awesome gig for the right person. No other branch can you be making $60k a year, your first year and then oveer $100k after 4 short years, with pay increases between... My wife gets a cost of living every year and then a performance raise every 2 years. Actually it's once a year until a certain point, then it's every 2 years. My wife was hired in at that point, so she goes every 2 years. Her first performance raise was $12k a year. Check it out.... http://postalinspectors.uspis.gov

when is the enrollment period for USPIS? How many hours do you work for the salary? 60k per year isn't worth working 60 hours per week for.

Roughly 25% of your pay is LEAP (Law Enforcement Availabilty Pay) and to qualify for LEAP, they want you to work an average of 2 hours of overtime each day. So 5 - 10 hour days. But, you are free to come and go as you please. No clock to punch, nobody to answer to. They are VERY big on accountability and honesty. If you lie, you will be fired. If you messed up and say you messed up, then worst case maybe suspended. There was a letter carrier that backed into a truck. It was all on tape. He never came forward, so after a week they called him and asked if he knew anything about it (gave him another chance) and he said 'no' - they fired him. It's all about ethics...

As to the hours you work, you're always on call (LEAP). So at 2am you could have to drive to Huntington for a burglary. All of your time counts! SO say you work 10 hours just on that, that's a 10 hour day you can take off elsewhere. It's all monthly averages. Each month you have to average 2.0 and keep that through the year.

Enrollment is constant (just checked and it's 1-5th of every month). Just gotta meet the requirements and then pass boot camp (which is VERY hard). Kathleen had ex LEO's and MP's in her class that failed. You fail, you go home - no second chance (on firearms taht is). THere were even some that could not pass firearms. Started out with like 25 and finished with like 11?

Here are the eligibility requirements:

$60K a year for 60 hour weeks probably isn't worth it, but that's your first year. 3 months out of your first year you are in school. You get everything starting at day one; medical, dental, retirment, vacation, leave, etc. You're also on a GS pay grade. My aunt has been in the Army for a LOOOOOONNGG time. She retired as an enlistee, then as a civilian and is now working on her third retirment as a active general. My wife started out nearly as high of as a pay grade as she has.

Anyway, like I said, it's a good gig if you can get it! Where else can you collect full retirment in 20 years? :D Kathleen will retire when she's 49. She'll still be young enough to transfer over to the ATF/FDA, work another 10 years and collect a second retirement. FDA (yes, they are a 1811 (federal) agency) loves 1811 retiree transfers... :greg:
