I have just about had it with the wimpy dana 35 axle in my Cherokee. The first break down could have been really bad if it had happened while the wife was on the freeway rather than one mile after getting off the freeway. It turns out that the axle shaft in my 35 isn't actually a one piece axle, it is a two piece design with the two pieces welded together on the end of the axle. The weld failed and the rear wheel, brake drum and hub fell off. It put a very quick end to her shopping trip.
The second failure happened a few weeks back when the posi exploded. The carrier split into two pieces. I was able to drive it home which I had a hard time believing after I took it apart. Here is a picture of the carnage. I'm just glad neither of these breakdowns happened while we were down in Moab where I wouldn't have had my spare axle supply handy.

Like I've said before... swap in a Toyota 8" axle from a 2wd V6 pickup and have it modified (somewhere local ;) ) to accept a TRD e-lock 3rd member w/ 4.10's, 4.56's, or 4.88's. With the above options listed, it simply kicks the crap out of a D44 or 8.8.

i'll verify specs when i get home from work, its a 3.73 ratio i beleive and its got the factory limited slip. it was going to go under a yj but plans change so it should work fine under an xj. i'll measure spring perches too. i'd like to get $75 out of it. i could probably work out delivery also, depending on were your located.

I've seen these axles hold up very impressively in competition. I'm not sure why there is no interest here? Von, aren't 2WD V6 5 on 4.5"?
