anyone have any suggestions for a cheap (or free) site builder and hosting service for someone that is not extremely savvy in that area?

a friend and i are thinking about launching a site

thanks!

i got the domain name for godaddy but saw that all of their site building and hosting has a cost

What does the site do? Convey information? Sell a product? Forum? All are different needs and thus solutions. I don't claim to be an expert (or even novice) on any but have dabbled in a few different mediums and know what has worked OK for me.

it will be a user-posted classifieds page so i imagine it's not the most simple build out there. i have thought about making it forum-based but vbulletin is $250 and i'm not sure if i'm ready to pay that just yet

And even vB doesn't lend itself well to dedicated classifieds, I'd suspect website software suites built for classified is going to be more expensive than vB. Good luck!

You need more then just a page builder for that. At a minimum you will need a back end database

Phpbb is a free forum software that runs in a sql database. Its nit the best but its free

i'm going to have to look into those options and pick the brain of my IT friend. now i know why this stuff is so expensive to have someone do for you... it sucks!

Thanks for that reference. That osclass deal might just work for a while at least. I will have to talk to Caleb about hosting

I can't give away all my secrets now can I? It's nothing that hasn't been done before but if I can do it affordable it seems like a "fun" project for me
