Well final checkout run before Mount Logan final tweak.
Right before the eagles nest, we start to overheat. The radiators electric fan quit running. It’s driven by a solenoid, which we tested and found had died on us today. Luckily we some wire, spades and electrical tools with us and connected the battery straight to the fan for an emergency trail fix.
Then I jump in to get going and the shifter would not move .. at all! It had been getting stiffer and stiffer, but it now was totally locked up in Park, sitting right in front of the nest. I climb under, following the shifter cable, and OUCH, the muffler guy really screwed up! The exhaust looks awesome – big 3” pipe, muffler sitting right in the belly skid plate, however, the dude left the shifter cable laying on the muffler! It had solid, tensioned contact on the front edge of the muffler in a very concentrated small area. It apparently welded the inner cable right to the outer shield. We had to disconnect the shifter cable at the transmission, crawl under and manually shift it. Nate had to build a custom extension on that cable, as the Art Car standard one was too short. Boy I’ll bet John is pissed at the muffler guy after he sees this.
Anyway, we finished the trail.
Wayne’s world – dry, struggled a couple times on the bottom, and then went right over – no struggle at all on top. Hit all the hardest lines on rattlesnake, straight through radiator rapids and over the nest. Tested my tool kit/spares with some trail repair, nice pleasant/sunny day and had a fun day. The jeep rocks … one more pass up north and things should be well.
