Snakes trip report

Good times!

We rolled through Rattlesnake (the waterfall isn't), stopped at the top, then went to Constrictor.

Nobody made it up Wayne's World, too slippery.

We headed towards the Eagle's Nest ...but what little snow there was stopped our progress at Radiator Rapids, in spite of several attempts with a bit of 454 mojo.

Bart said we wouldn't make it through without winching, and he was right. It was already past 2, so we decided to keep the winches spooled up and called it a day.

Fun to meet some new people and see old friends.

Much nicer than in the valley...but super nasty fog (cloud?) on the way out there, including through Cedar Fort and Fairfield. Didn't clear up until the 5MP parking lot. Plenty warm up there, had to take off my sweatshirt.

Oh ya, forgot the carnage:

Tyson: rear upper control arm bolt (three-freakin'-eighths???)
Bart: front brake hardline fitting (what? how?)
Everyone: MUD everywhere.

No kidding about the mud. The mud on the way down was worse. After the ground had a chance to thaw a little bit, it was way worse. Here are some of my pics. I tried to do some video, but my phone was giving me fits.

About that rear upper control arm bolt, I need to get some bigger eyes for those. I can't believe they are 3/8"s. Thanks Maverick for randomly having a spare one.

There was more carnage than that. When we got back to the parking lot, we noticed a nice leak coming from my 81's radiator. I got up underneath with mud dripping on me and there is a pin sized hole on the bottom corner of the radiator. Apparently, the radiator is too close to the crossmember and from all the bouncing around it eventually caused this tiny leak. So I cut off a piece of my rubber floor mat , folded it over 3 times and pushed the radiator out and wedged it in between. Stopped the leak but who knows how long it had been leaking. Barely started getting the temps up when I got back in my driveway.

When did you break that fitting Bart?I did that once. It was from my driver tire rubbing on the hard line and eventually ripped it out.

The truck did great other than that radiator leak. But I let my brother in law drive it all day. I was driving my jeep. I really only drove it on Waynes World. Good thing it's got those sliders...I beat the crap out of them. If they weren't on there I would have a door that no longer opens.

they're beefy sliders. I had to cut the front body mount off to move the power steering box forward, that's probably why the radiator hit. It needs a little support up front and it should be fine.

When did you break that fitting Bart?I did that once. It was from my driver tire rubbing on the hard line and eventually ripped it out.

It broke just after we got turned around, about 5 minutes after you guys left. Yep, same thing, somehow the tire rubbed the stock hard line and broke it at the fitting.

We had a great time. Only spent $4.50 at the car wash. It's the one off Center in Orem and takes credit cards. I'd bet it would have run over $10 anywhere else. Have some pics coming.

What did you do to get it fixed to have pressure? I pulled the fitting out of the tire end, cause it was still good. Then i pushed it through a plastic baggy 2 or 3 times to seal the end and then screwed it in to where the top one broke and put some gum on it for good measure. Haha. Got me all the way home and then I went to EVCO and they made me a stainless steel one and used my RME discount.

I just bent the hard line over and crimped it, then put a small vice grip on it and zip tied it in place. I'm just going to bend it a bit different, cut and flair the end and reattach it. I think there is plenty of line to do that.
