Anyone headed out in their 4x4's to play in the snow? Some of my most memorable 4x4 trips were up AF Canyon with other RME'ers, we used to do a LOT of RME snow wheelin trips.

I headed up to Glade Park here in Western CO today to check on the snow, there's more then enough to have fun! We're supposed to get more over Christmas, I'm thinking I'll head out again on Saturday.

Speaking of snow wheelin, anyone ran tire chains while aired down? I seem to do fine aired down, but have a set of chains I've never ran before. I suppose I should find some real deep snow and see how they do.

I used to use chains all the time, not aired down though. I put chains on all 4 corners of my f250 and never got stuck and I pushed snow up and over the hood plenty if times.

My Dodge 1500 I did the same thing, constantly broke trail up to the tubing/sledding hills. Pushing bumpers deep-headlight deep snow and sometimes pulling the vehicle behind me and still had no issues.

I would love to go snow wheeling. Too bad there's no snow down my way:(. It has rained for the past two day meow. I got stuck in the mud in my yard this morning trying to get my trailer out. I waited till 5 am thinking it would freeze. . . it didn't. Those are 6"-8" ruts.

Where can we wheel up there during winter? I thought they locked the gates

Yeah, they lock the gates at Tibblefork around Thanksgiving depending on how much snow they have. Even then, before Thanksgiving there is usually just enough snow to make it a real challenge. I've been up there in EPIC conditions and the gate was still opened.

There are plenty of other places to go, I know Bart and a bunch of the other guys had make trips towards Heber, Midway, etc. I've been snow wheelin up towards Cascade Springs before when the gate at Tibblefork was closed.

... I've also had some incredible snow up AF canyon before the gates were closed.

I remember running into you and your Comanche at the Chevron one evening, you had just come out of AFC and we were headed up... would have been around 2001? We pushed thru snow slides above the switchbacks that were over my headlights, got very stuck and I flopped my truck on the way back down, being stupid. Ahhh..... good times!!

Oh how I miss those days. There were several AMAZING trips up AF that same week we ran into you. The Comanche was a blast in the snow, and Sam's Disco did pretty good too! I remember being all the way up at Forest Lake in 3 feet of untouched powder... One of my fondest wheeling memories for sure.

I was thinking of going to 5-mile and camp close near the end of R.S. new years night and maybe some night wheeling. Or just stay home and light the fireworks off.
Not sure if the significant other is up to camping , I'll have to check.

. If I couldnt pull that off . I'd also like to hit Blackrock canyon (daytrip) and use my winch . Well see how far I could make it.:D

After tomorrow I'm off till the 4th and would love to go play in the snow. I went to rattle snake a couple weeks after getting my JK a few years ago in the snow and had a blast. It was snowing super hard and there was over a foot of fresh snow. I'd love to try out the 100 in the same conditions.

I loved chains on my previous crawler. 75 F250. I ran 33x12.50 les Schwab mud specials. I cut 3-4 cross links from pewag 11r chains. The complaint I had was the cheap wildcat side walls didn't like the chains so much. Chewed em up so bad the one time I used them I thought the sidewall would blow. But regarding the snow and mud on that trip, they chewed right through. It was fun.

We had some pretty epic AFC trips back in the day. Remember this trip:

I can't believe that was over 10 years ago

That was a FUN trip! I was full throttle in 2nd gear to get up that hill.... like on the verge of floating valves! IIRC, as more traffic made it up the hill it got more difficult. Johnny really had a hard time, hitting it over and over!
