We showed up at our normal spot normal time and waited for daybreak. As the sun was comming up,we spotted a big buck just outside the treeline that was atleast a 6x or better.Prolly 7-900 yrds out or so,but we watched for atleast on hour.

All of a sudden,we hear 6 shot's high on the ridge.I told the boy to watch the ridgeline to see if anything barrel's down while I watch this other, well the one I was watching dissapeared, meanwhile he watches this deer just a truckin down the hillside in front of us and it was the buck that was being shot at.We watched him go into some trees below us and thought, well let's just stay here and keep an eye on the area for awhile longer, just for the fact we seen atleast three to take.....Nothing(Prolly spooked from all the fire)....so I told him let's walk the bottom and check where that buck crossed just to see if he had been hit,we had nothing better to do and was in the general direction where we were going anyhow.

Sure as chit....blood in the snow,we followed the trail and found a spot where he had stopped,LOT'S of blood.I thought, well since we are here let's track him.The boy was in front doin the spottin and I thought the little buck was going to mow us over when we came upon him,but had nothing left when he tried to run,as well as being hung up on a fallen aspen.

I ended up putting him down.I told lil mike, let's sit here and see if these guy's will track him down...If so I wont mind them taking him since they shot the crap outta him,So we wait and wait(at least an half hour).Nobody in sight on the ridge anywhere..I thought motherfr's.I pulled the knife out and cleaned him out and waited abit longer. Then went and got the truck, brought it around to the bottom, loaded him up and went home.
The poor guy was shot in behind the shoulder taking half the backtrap on one side, a back leg was shot and broke, then to top that off he had been shot in the head and missing an eye:confused:I mean what the hell?

Not how I want to take them but would rather this way than let it rot.lil 2point,good size body.Should be decent eating anyhow.I would have told the warden that was nearby when heading out but there were a few rig's on that ridge by the time we got the deer out:mad:

That right there is why I don't like hunting.:-\

Sounds like the idiots that shot at it, need some more time behind a gun.

I got off a shot at a good sized cow elk last year and spent several hours tracking it. It ended up crossing a county road whereupon two other hunting parties opened fire and started on it's trail as well. I gave up at that point as I did not want to take home processed hamburger or have to argue with two other hunting parties about who was going to take it home. Another guy I was hunting with saw a group bringing a cow elk out from that area a bit later. I wonder what happened to ethical hunting practices???? Maybe it has to do with all the out of state visitors we get around here that spend all day driving the county roads then complain about how the DOW does not manage the game herd well because these same hunters are not seeing anything.

NICE!
Your lucky the next shots werent in your direction, Since it ran near you and you followed it a bit.

Like I said we didn't see a soul anywhere from up top,or anywhere near. From where we were sitting before we went tracking we could see 3/4 of the mountain side from where the shot's were fired from and we watched for along time...They probably figured they missed or that the size wasn't worth it,I dunno. All I know is that it is not going to waste, which I knew it would have.

Good for you guys

I probably fed that deer in my pasture, so it should be good eating (grin). Thank you for finishing the other guy's task, you're a true sportsman.

I saw you follow me past my turn off the other day, so you must have been scouting the butte. Let me know if you need a hand getting any critters out. I'll give you a call about working on the Tracker - been busy on the remodel job trying to finish the heating system.

when hunting for something you want to eat , the best thing to do is kill it where it stands. if it has a chance to "run for its life" it will be full of adrenaline.
