Well it looks like we all need to mask up on Federal Lands (by Executive Order).

Launches a "100 Days Masking Challenge" asking Americans to wear masks for 100 days. Requires masks and physical distancing in federal buildings, on federal lands and by government contractors, and urges states and local governments to do the same.
I will be at a race in Johnson Valley this weekend, it will be interesting to see what the enforcement looks like.

Only POTUS Joe was walking around the Lincoln memorial today without a mask. Maybe its just an indoor thing

Went and read the EO - "Section 1 (para 2) Accordingly, to protect the Federal workforce and individuals interacting with the Federal workforce, and to ensure the continuity of Government services and activities, on-duty or on-site Federal employees, on-site Federal contractors, and other individuals in Federal buildings and on Federal lands should all wear masks, maintain social distance, and adhere to other public health measures, as provided in CDC guidelines." Two key parts "should" and "Federal lands"

Libra won't be a decentralized crypto. FB would never allow it to be.

The problem with other crypto comes with who owns the majority of the mining pool as well as the majority of the shares in the crypto. But that's not the most worrisome part.

No matter how many wallets you loop your transactions through, it's all traceable and on distributed record. If you keep your money in a private wallet, that's good and fine... but the moment you move that crypto somewhere to cash out or buy a service with your name on it, you just provided a path for somebody to see every transaction you've ever made right back to your name. Which is no different than using credit cards... but it's not "private like cash" as was claimed.
There are privacy coins like Monero where the ledger is not public. Bitcoin was of course never meant to be untraceable.

I thought this take was an interesting one, with some concrete proposals on reform.

A conservative’s case for optimism - The Boston Globe

Him endorsing Mitt.... author is Evan McMullin... notmycandidate

he does make a couple of ok points but I disagree with his tone for sure. Personally, the “appeal” of someone like orange man bad is that he is NOT a politician. He had to go back to constitutional principles which he did so to a degree. He’s such a flawed character and the press preyed upon any/every misstep that now he’s vilified by the press. He did some good things as President. Middle East peace agreements, stood up to the Chinese and others in the interests of America, and did things in the interests of the nation. He’s a total idiot in many ways and that’s why he’s lost.

I think he had 78 million votes? Uncle Joe had 84 million (aren’t those the reported numbers?). There are a LOT of people that believed the Trumpster was a better candidate than a career leech, err politician. Personally, I’d like a LOT more business type people in politics. Get rid of the career bloodsuckers on both sides of the aisle. The establishment has to go or reform themselves (ha!!! Can’t ever happen)

Are we really going to get into Trump's the bad guy here? It's not like 5 states all announced they were stopping counting in the middle of the night with Trump in the lead and somehow had an additional 100k votes for Biden when counting restarted, it's not like we had dead people voting, no signatures validated, votes quite simply switched from Trump to Biden but forget all that Orange Man bad. The Republican party is dead, they don't have the balls to stand up and say there's a problem here, they roll over and ask for more abuse. There's no point of voting any more. Please show me where Trump said go break into Pelosi's office and ransack the place. Hell there's been rioting all summer long, you remember all that peaceful burning/looting/autonomous zone or don't you because the media just glossed over all of it while the cities burned?

Go ahead tell me Biden is the most popular president ever with 80 million votes, more popular than Obama, more popular than Hillary, while he sits in his basement and can't seem to get more than 20 people stuck in cute little circles to his public events. If you believe the Orange man is bad here go stick your head in the sand listen to the media ask Biden the tough questions like what he had for breakfast.
Right on Spork.

I was born a democrat, changed to Republican when I voted for Reagan, and changed to an Independent when the first Bush was elected. I have voted for the person that had a chance of being elected that was the least of two evils.
Democrats and Republicans are just titles given to the same politically bent persons that choose a party to get elected. They are now all Totalitarians or as Aristotle defined Tyranny "the rule of one person or of a small group of people which became possible because modern science and technology". In other words controlled press, science (carbon, Covid, environmental climate change, and politicians that want to stay in power.
I would rather be controlled "by the people" that have not been Indoctrinated by the schools, government, and the press

I thought this from the Editors of National Review was quite timely:
_____

High among the things American conservatism seeks to conserve is our country’s political inheritance from our founding, an inheritance that makes it possible for us to be a free, prosperous, decent, and self-governing society.

That work is unending and sometimes arduous — because the inheritance is complex and often misunderstood, because the threats to it are many and varied, and because conservation is rarely reducible to resisting change. Our claim is not that the Founders were perfect but that they were wise, and that we need to fit the times to the Constitution more than the other way around.

Constitutional government is betrayed when the public is asked not to consult with experts but to submit to them. Or when courts deny our system’s foundational premise that all men are created equal in their basic rights. Or, as we have recently seen, when a mob seeks to intimidate legislators into forgetting their duties.

Our political debates are often necessarily contentious, but they must remain only metaphorically battles. Different stripes of conservatives can have productive arguments with one another about how to help families flourish, what the proper bounds of government are, and who should lead the Republican Party. But that debate must not partake of conspiratorial fantasies, and lawless violence must never be on the table. We must strive, against all demagogues, to make our reason the master and not the servant of our passions.

The spirit of republican deliberation is already too frail in our times. Our fellow citizens doubt one another’s good intent and capacity for self-government. Even conservatives are tempted to give up the defense of the Constitution, which would leave it friendless and dying. Nothing, at such a moment, can sound more naïve than a call for Americans to rededicate ourselves to our patrimony. Nothing is more essential.

“Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who chairs the left-leaning Congressional Progressive Caucus, told Politico in an online interview that $1.9 trillion should be the floor for COVID-19 relief spending, not a ceiling.

Her caucus, which represents more than 90 of the House's 221 Democrats, wants the package to include a minimum wage hike to $15 an hour, a path to citizenship for essential workers who are immigrants and auto-enrollment in public health insurance plans for the uninsured.

"We should think of this in terms of the needs of people, not in terms of the dollar amounts," Jayapal said.

She and other Democratic lawmakers including Rep. Ilhan Omar have called for recurring payments to U.S. households instead of the one-time $1,400 check the Biden administration has included in its proposal.”

Long quote for context but after reading it scares me that this could be a sneak to “universal income” BS the socialist sorry Democratic Party is pushing.

Overall the D party has move hard socialist, but I believe there are enough people in the party to oppose some of this stuff to keep it from moving forward in the manner that it is being proposed. The AOC's, Omars and such are over playing their hand and I see it costing them big in the midterm election.

I think we need to start a side bet on the future of Mittens and who might primary him in 3 years. I expect some noise to start prior to the midterms elections.

You assume that we will still have elections where we choose from candidates that have competing viewpoints, not just left and lefterer.

Interesting read, hope that a legitimate third party comes out of it.

Also in the 37sec of impeachment circus I could tolerate to look at, I love how the dem machine is aware of what the word "riot" is and more than happy to label Jan 6th. But must have escaped their vocabulary all of last year. Damn joke.
