SoCal wheelin, the San Bernardino Mtns

My wife & I went up to Big Bear, in the San Bernardino mountains for a little exploring today. I have heard that there's a couple 4+ trails, so we were searching for 'em. (It's the first "real" wheelin' I've done sine I moved!)

The Forest Service people were no help, I don't think they're encouraged to tell people where the good trails are. We ended up driving all over & found a couple intresting places, but nothing the Taco couldn't handle. Actually... I think I was pushing it once or twice. I'm planning on going with some locals next time & hopefully in the 4Runner by then.

Here's the pics-

General view of the area. Most of the time we were over 7000 ft, pretty high for the area.

A little friend we found. He wouldn't move, so I had to drive around him. Not sure what kind of snake he is, anyone know? -

The first real challenging hill, I thought we wouldn't make it!-

Eventually, we got on one of the easier trails & found a fun little spot to twist up the Tacoma-

And that's about it! Nothing to hardcore, but a fun way to spend the day!

So where are the mountains......... :ugh:

J/K.... :p

There's still alot of snow on the highest peak, I just didn't get any shots of the mtns. In the first pic, we're pretty much on the ridgeline of the mountain. You can see down into the valleys below, I think looking towards Victorville.

Know what, there's actually a ski resort or 2 up where we were.

Gopher snake

More precise a Pacific Gofer. They make great pets. Looks like a 6'er.
Greg, I got some freinds down that way that can show you some trails. Let me know if you would like to hook up. Some of them drive them damn Isuzu's.
