Hey Guys,
Many of you know I have been doing my yard this spring, regrading, new sprinklers, top soil, curbing and now sod.

Anyways, I know some of you have done landscaping and such. Any tips on the install? or final prep/fertillizer/etc?

Where do you recommend getting sod? I would rather spend an .02 or .03 a foot and get good stuff vs. getting cheap sod...

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Search for Braden's thread about sod, lots of good info in there. Rake it good, spread fertilizer (50/50 Milorganite and Ammonium sulfate) then rake that in some, roll out your sod and keep soaked for the first 24 hrs, then wet for a week, so on and so forth.

There is usually a beveled end so that the edge of one piece will lay over the top of the other edge. Make sure you keep the bevel in the same direction. Cut the first piece in half and start with a half piece before you lay a full piece down. On the second row, start with a full piece and then the third row use a half piece again. By creating this checker board type effect, the water will stay in the grass better especially on slopes. It also keeps the seams alternating and tends to look better as it is starting to fill in.

Use steak knives to cut the sod and try to keep the lines straight. I hope your fingers are feeling up to it. In the old days, I landscaped to pay for college. I had one job that was 50K sq ft of sod and myself and two others laid it by hand in a day and hurt for a week.

Have fun.

Tips: I know its probably common sense but I have went to help several lay sod with uneven ground. Make sure its as level as possible

I couldn't find a thread from Braden (Rockmonkey) but found Sami's

But I couldn't see where he bought his sod from...

Any recommendations.

Hey Carl, I ended up going with Davis sod out of malad. .21 ft including delivery to the house. The semi should be here in the morning.

I have been playing the last sprinklers and raking things out one more time.

If anyone wants to come play Saturday morning we are starting at 8:30am. :D
