Probably one of those deals where they sold a replacement 44 housing that would use the YJ stuff from the knuckles out. I remember seeing ads for them back in the day. Not 70s dodge they used knuckles with the ball joints pressed into the knuckles not the inner C I think. I really can't believe any one built that.

I've seen a few variations before. If you really want hubs, I'd look for a driver drop waggy complete front axle. Swap your gears and locker into it. It will be narrower by a few inches though.

Jk axles are about 64-65" if you want to go there. No locking hubs though

what diameter are the tubes? looks like it is some sort of a G2 type axle with standard jeep inner and outer knuckles. i'm pretty sure those are the larger 297 u joints as well.
if i remember right, reid racing makes a conversion knuckle that will allow you to use standard 44 outer parts. Much better route than the explorer parts already mentioned.

Thanks for the good information guys. Looks like those Reid racing knuckles are about $275....not too bad. My brother does have a d44 laying around I might be able to talk him out of.... but that means I'm going to have to figure out wheels and new shafts for the rear or whatever since his is 5x5.5..... it never ends.

You can have the rear shafts and drums drilled out to 5x5.5, many aftermarket axles will come predrilled for both patterns.

Yeah.... I thought about doing that.... so I resolved the bolt pattern issue. It is actually a 5x4.5 pattern like standard jeep wheels....at least according to this chart below. Apparently on 4,6,8 lug wheels you measure center to center...or end to end on the lugs but on the 5 lug wheels you measure center to end....weird I know, but check out the chart below.
