Sorry Mike: The Summit Trail Run Thread

With apologies to Mike, I"m starting a thread, I mean COME ON! it's almost like three whole hours since we got done!

Refer to the pics for illustration. I got a ride out with Lee, aka Wally, who lives like 5 feet away from me as it turns out, who knew. Anyway, thanks again Wally, yer a lifesaver! We got there about 9:45 in the am and there were already a few people milling about. More trickled in over the next 1/2 hour or so. I didn't get any pics of that, but imagine a whole bunch of rigs and trailers.
Mike finally showed up with the donuts, so everyone got fed, and then we got to it. I rode with Shawn, in his underpowered, totally weak POS "buggy" (had problems ALL DAY, man!), followed by Meat and Timpanogos, and I think Dan and Garrett behind them.
First pic is of Meat on the first ledge up Rattlesnake. Second pic is a guy named Wayne? I think in his doorless GMC. I was really jealous of that thing, mostly because he was on the trail, while my own K5 is still on stands in the driveway. :( Third pic is Shawn somewhere right near there, full of love and sunshine. :)

Then we got to a slightly larger ledge, if this has a name I don't know it. This was my first ride up these trails. Meat did a pretty good job making this look easy, even with snow all over the approach. Shawn and Sami, with his ridiculously HUGE rims, did an excellent job as well.
Sami nearly needed a strap, after he got all nervous and it didn't look like he had the huevos to make it. Way to pull through, Jason! Good job, bud!

We made our way up to Wayne's World after that. Meat gave it hell, but it was waaaaaayyyy to muddy/wet/slimy to make much headway. I think Chadschoon came next, but all my pics sucked so, sorry Chad. Nice TJ though. Shawn made an attempt after that and looked pretty good doing it, but tranny mount issues and a desire to finish the day made him go around. That kid with the yellow and green Toyota with the big sticker on the hood had a hell of a ride down Wayne's World BACKWARDS when he lost power. The girl with him looked pleased at that.

I took some pics from the bottom of Wayne's World to show how tall that first ledge is, and to study later. ;) There's that green/yellow/sticker rig, with the mystery driver. I'm terrible with names. Oh, I remember! CarrotTop was driving, but not cracking jokes.

After some more fun, including the Xterra getting stuck in some dip in the trail, heheheh, we made our way to Radiator Rapids, where the guy whose name I didn't get in the maroon CJ was solidly stuck all akimbo. After some finagling, he got himself righted and made room for Dan and Garrett to REALLY get Dan's 1/4 elliptic YJ stuck. At one point, both diffs were hard up against rocks and I think only one tire was really touching the earth. After a little work, they got set right again as well. Nasty little spot in the mud! Shawn messed around on the left for a bit, but ended up going right, to success.

We made our way up to Eagle's Nest, which was difficult on foot thanks to the mud and slop. The guy in the maroon CJ stranded himself about halfway up with a stalled motor, and nearly tipped his junk at one point. After some sputtering and complaint from his drivetrain, he was able to winch himself free.
We spent a good while up here, making sure everyone got up that was going up. Dan and Garrett spent some time reclining on the winch line with some uhhhh power issues. Shawn nearly flipped his rig when he managed to back over a huge rock that acted like a big jack and hoisted him high.

After that, Shawn took a fun ride sideways on the winch line with a far right line that tipped him damn close to over. After he got up, that guy with the ugly but useful Bronco buggy and his buddy in the FSJ pickup got the hook and winched on up.

Some minor rock action after that and we were done. Meat smacked the sh*t out of his door with a tree, and Shawn and I got hung up momentarily on various rocks. I ran out of battery as soon as we got to the top of the trail, good timing. The drive down was a mucky, sloppy snotfest. We had a pretty good laugh at that, and at watching Meat holding his door open up that hillclimb to the top. Once we got to the bottom we were a little surprised to see that nearly everyone was gone! I think just Meat, Bronco buggy guy, and FSJ truck dude were behind us.

Thanks again to Shawn for letting me ride with him, to Mike for hosting this thing, and for donuts mmmmmm, for everyone whose name I forgot, and extra special thanks to Wally for waiting for us so I could get a ride home. I had a great time! Thanks!
