Speaking of vehicle inspections...

Since I am moving to UT in about two months, I thought I might pick some brains regarding my motley vehicles.
Lets start with the worst offenders.

1998 Thomas Saf-T-Liner. Yeah, a school bus, it's only 31' long, runs on a 5.9L Cummins diesel, the same as in a ram truck, gutless. I outfitted the inside like an Ikea apartment, with a garage at the back. No bathroom, no shower, no heat. I pulled all the bus signage, repainted the outside, and all the rear windows are tinted from the factory. It has one seat belt, on the driver's seat, also had a handicapped lift, which is great for the motorcycles. Oh, it has no windshield wipers, none at all. I use Rain X so far, which works fine except in snow. Heh!

What are the odds that I will be able to get this thing registered in Utah? It's registered here as a motorhome, if I remember correctly. Plus, I will be living in it for a bit until I find a job. :-\ There was only a cursory inspection required here, horn, lights, school designations removed, brakes, starts, bob's your uncle. When we bought it last year, we didn't remove anything, it still had a paper plate, and after owning it two weeks, we drove it to Big Bend, Texas and back. Not a single hiccup, other than crawling up hills, and barely making it over 62 on the freeway.

2005 Suzuki DRZ-E. It's street plated here, I did most of the work myself adding normal headlights from a Triumph, turn signals from a KTM 950, brake and rear running light from ebay, turn signal pod from a GSXR, mirrors from an Aprilia. Yeah, it's a franken bike. :greg: The real problem I think will be the exhaust, I never liked it, but the bike runs real well with it. It's a Yoshimura blow your ear drums model. I have to wear ear plugs. That is the one thing I hate about this bike, but it rips, especially in supermoto trim, which is how I bought it. Now it's been on a lot of dirt trips so it has the scars.

I am betting the exhaust will be the problem, plus it says right on the frame "Off road use only," or something to that effect. Also, it has no horn. Never got around to it, watch for finger. :p I didn't have to have it inspected at all here, it came to me with a half assed conversion already done, and title was street legal.

2004 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Salvage/rebuilt title, chopped front bumper, average 3.5" lift, 33" tires. Stock exhaust, European H4 headlights, all other lights intact. Small tear in driver's seat belt from being shut in the door too many times by the previous owner. Airbags never deployed, there might be a slight bend in the front axle housing, but I don't much care about it.

I am only worried about the rebuilt title, and the chopped OEM bumper.

2005 Triumph Tiger. Daily driver, completely stock, save for the GPS. Not worried at all about this bike passing inspection. Hard to argue with 55+ miles per gallon, when the weather cooperates.

The rest are bicycles, and I probably don't have to have them inspected, right? :D

Please, I welcome all advice regarding what I should take care of before I try to get them inspected.

Coming from Michigan, where they don't care what your car looks like, sounds like, or works like, as long as you pay the registration and insurance. I only had to have the bus and jeep inspected because of the rebuilt titles.

Re: the RV. Since it's titled already as an RV, I think I'd just try to do a title change and assume it'll go through as an RV.

I have no idea on the motorcycle stuff.

The Jeep shouldn't have an issue if your tires are covered via flares and you've got mud flaps to at least the centerline of the axle. The bumper is a bit of a "gray" area, but I think it's supposed to cover to at least the centerline of the tire per state inspection guidelines. I'd just see if it goes through how it is and fix what the inspection station recommends.

I'll be in Lansing in about 2 months. If you had a Cadillac or something like that I'd offer to drive it back to Utah for you.

Well, the whole lot of it fits either inside the bus, or towed behind. I still need to find either a trailer I can afford, or a tow dolly. A cadillac? It's funny, we make two things in Lansing anymore. Cadillac cars and armored military vehicles.
So, which is it you are coming to look at? :greg:

I will need almost all of them between here and SLC anyway, as I am making a stop over in Colorado. :p

I can probably find a stock Jeep bumper to use for inspection, as they are plentiful and usually free or nearly free. I have original mud things on the back, somehow, and I might still have the fronts though they are a bit torn up. I can stop at a junkyard and get a truck flap and cut it up, screw it in place. Think that will do it?

Also, what do inspections cost?
How often must a vehicle be inspected?
Is it a requirement to do it to get one registered from another state?

Why is the sky blue?
Who put the ram in the ramalamadingdong?

$17 each - more if you also need emissions - This requirement depends on the county you live in. Must be done annually unless it is fairly new < 5 years?, then every other year. You do need it to get registered regardless of where it came from.

Neither. My father is being buried at the National Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI. on May 9th. My mother still lives in Lansing.

I haven't been to MI. since the mid 70s and Strohs was the beer to drink.

DOH. Sorry for your loss. I feel like a jerk now, but that's nothing new.
I hope the weather is good for the service.

For what it's worth, there is a few good microbreweries in the area. You don't have to drink Stroh's anymore.

I suppose that last question seemed a bit, ahh.. dumb.
What I meant was... oh heck, it doesn't even matter now.
