Start over... This time full size rig?

Register it at a Colorado address. We don't have that safety inspection/emissions stuff that you are talking about. I see guys running truggys with full size axles all the time, have seen a few buggys on the roads and we can also have tires that stick out from the body.

Now, almost a month later, what are you thinking?

Uggg. I came to the conclusion that if my Dodge wasn't one of the cleanest first gen's in Lewiston :)hickey:) I'd probably attempt it.

I've really been considering a 60 series Land Cruiser. I like the classic style, they are big but not huge, and they are fairly cheap if you don't mind rust.

I HATE the idea of any V8 or Chevrolet engine in any Toyota, but the 2F is not exactly a powerhouse and the fuel economy isn't the best either and they are carborated :-\. If it was one or the other I'd be okay with it.

I would in the long run like to be able to take my family on some of my mild excursions/long distance trips but also be able to run 4+ trails without too much stress.

Lately I've been dreaming up a 60 series LC with a Detroit 6.2/6.5 diesel engine (2F power but with much better fuel mileage), an SM465 trans, 205 T-case and a spring over with an HD D44 and a rear D60

I think I could build one for pretty cheap with those pieces. But then reality sets in and I decide that I just don't have the time or money for it :-\

Isn't there a 2F EFI conversion kit? I bet that would be a lot of work but really cool in the end, or...

you could just buy an imported FJ 45 with a diesel for $35,000+

What about a EFI Four Runner?

Get an FJ62 (such as the big goldish color one that was with us on Saturday). FJ62's have the MPFI 3FE, get decent mileage for their size and run forever much like the 2F. Downside (for some) is they are only available in the automatic, though manual trans swaps are easy enough. Look into the Cummins 4BT swap too, its very popular in 60 Series rigs and can net mid 20's mileage and decent power. I just sold my rust free 60 last week, clean ones are getting harder and harder to find and the price really hasn't come down that much in the past few years.

That 62 was bad :D

I'd love a 4BT/NV4500 in a 60 series. The cost of the engines alone, and the nickles and dimes involved in the swap would be too much for me to afford all at once though :-\ With a 6.2/6.5 I could have a complete donor vehicle with everything I needed for half the cost of the Cummins engine by itself. I just need to get a worn out 60 with a blown engine and start collecting parts I guess.

Other than a few legal issues with the Hilux and the fact that I alone barely fit in it with my gear it is still by far my favorite truck I just wish it was a four door.

Speaking of clean/hard to find 60's. My good friends dad has an 84 with all the bells and whistles with 18K original miles  It seriously still has the "new car" smell inside and nubs on the original tires. I cannot put into words just how clean it is. :greg:
