Steel Bender

We were in Moab at the end of July and ran Steel Bender July 31st. We got past the Yellow cattle guard and to the first big ledge with the drop offs on the right after it and it was completly washed out and made White Knuckle look mellow.

In this pic it shows the ledge I'm refering to (I found it on the web) but everything under this guys tires was gone and it was a good 3 feet deeper and undercut pretty bad.

Have any of you guys or gals been out there since July 31st? Just curious. Of course we didnt even think of taking any pic's until we were half way back out.

I haven't ran that trail for probably 8 or more years but for some reason I do remember that section being a lot steeper than pictured. I'm betting it's just one of those that change every so often.

I think it's been filling in with the rock stacking over the years or I'm getting used to it. Last time I went down it I didn't think it was that bad.

We ran it last year in May and it didn't seem too washed out. Did you run it from north to south or from south to north? We started at the Ken's Lake end and came out by town.

Yeah same here trails can change quite a bit from wash out etc every year... I was really surprised by it though. When I got out to take a look my first thought was "no way" and then "wow". In the Wells Book he states that he drags the tail end of his Cherokee on it every time, I think his tail would pass him now...lol. My buddy rick said "I ain't goin' down that" and laughed... I agreed. Even with 42's it looked quite iffy! Like I said before, lots of tracks leading up to it and none going away from it.

I remember the fist time I went down White Knuckle... It looked steep, a bit scary and all that but its not as tall as this was and it isn't undercut at the bottom. Of course like most once your over it you think that wasn't bad and each time its easier and easier.

Nope we started at the town end where you go in by the Condo's. I want to own that first vally you drop into past the Condo's, that is nice in there, looks like they farm something there (not why I like it).

Any way, just thought maybe some one had been there since the end of July. Thanks for the input.
