Steering box q's

alright i'm gonna be linking my 4 runner soon and I need some input on some steering boxes the ones i researched that some people used were the saginaw box, fj series box or just move the ifs box forward. I am just wondering what you guys have ran in the past and i'm trying to get MOST of the kinks out before the build so it will hopefully be as painless as possible and this is one of my biggest worries. I could use the stock rearward swinging box and just push it forward a couple inches but will strength become an issue at some point to upgrade to an 60 or an 80 series box. forward swing would be nice but i would like to get some input from you guys

Run your Stock IFS box, move it forward enough so the pitman arm clears the tie rod link. Extend your steering shaft with tube. If you run the FJ forward swing box then you have to mount it up high and out of the way from hitting the tierod and brackets/Panhard.

When linking the front end, things get very busy and tight in a hurry. Getting the geometry of the drag link and panhard is the most important thing... Driveability and reliability for sure. Start with getting your 3 link setup first and see what space you have left. Oh, don't run 4 link with a steering box up front, need to have a 3 link with panhard setup. Drag link and panhard parallel and horizontal to the ground, as much as possible.

alright thats good to know! i have ordered the 3 link kit from ruff stuff so i'm pretty sure that will be a good basis to start from. do you know of any good threads that shows how to keep those as parallel as possible?

Practice makes perfect.. Check out Pirate4x4 for 3 link setups. Don't think everyone out there that has done it is exactly right.. Biggest problem is the frame, uptravel and low CG are haters.. Moving the axle forward and getting the drag link to synch with tierod and have acceptable uptravel.
