I've loved my Trooper over the last eight and a half years, but I just got the itch about a month ago to get something new. Even with all the work and upgrades I've done to the Trooper, its still a 26-year old vehicle at heart. I wanted something newer and yes, more comfortable. So yesterday I pulled the trigger on this Armada. These have been on my radar since Nissan started basing them on the global Patrol platform in 2017. Yes, the Infiniti QX56/80 have been based on the Patrol since 2011; but those are just ugly.
Now an Armada is 80% Patrol. In Nissan's infinite wisdom, they deleted the factory locker, tuned the suspension to be more road biased, and didn't include the "Rock, Sand, and Mud" transmission modes. And the good ol'Federal impact standards mean the bumpers are totally different. All that said, the Armada is still a very competent off-road vehicle. And its freaking huge. Globally, the Patrol is a direct competitor to the 200-Series Land Cruiser, but the Patrol is actually slightly larger than that. So for me, who generally enjoys small vehicles like Samurai's and Miata's; its like driving a bus! But boy; its a bus with guts! That 390hp (equivalent to ~6 Samurais, in case you're wondering) and 401 lb-ft of torque MOVES.
So what are my plans with this barge? Well, its more or less going to replace the Trooper as my backcountry adventure vehicle. I'm still teasing out exactly what I want to do and where to get it from. As mentioned, since this isn't fully a Patrol, the aftermarket is a bit scattered. Some Patrol stuff bolts right on, some (like bumpers) do not. And the Armada specific aftermarket seems to just be spinning up. A number of companies have products that are in development right now.
In broad strokes, though, a mild lift (2"-3"), better all-terrain tires, ARB air locker in the rear, rock rails, front and rear bumpers (when they're available), and some interior stuff to make camp life a bit more luxe.
And yes, @bryson, part of the motivation in getting an Armada was because its different from a Land Cruiser. I just can't help myself.

You should! As I've said, super impressed thus far. Can't wait to get some sliders, a lift, and some bigger tire on there. The wife says I have to "budget" that, though. Psh, the nerve!

This seems to create an opportunity.....you "gather" some server sliders.....you create an Etsy shop to sell said sliders:rofl:.....we buy the sliders from your shop......you now have $$ for the Armada outside the normal budget process!

No one in the US makes or carries rock sliders for the Y62 platform, so I snagged a set of Trail Gear Tacoma DC sliders. They are 78" long, and the Armada is 80" between wheel wells, so not a big deal if there is an inch gap on either end. Since my welding skills are pretty weak sauce, I took them to @I Lean for mocking up:

And this morning I dropped them off at Full Blown Coatings to get powder coated.

Have you seen the big Armada in WJ? Dude lives in the neighborhood next to mine so I see it all the time. I think he owns a Chick-fil-Yay. Anyways it’s pretty cool looking with bumpers, lifted, bigger tires, rack etc

I've been patiently waiting for the Ironman 1.5" Kit thats been sold out since November to become available again. After chatting with Ironman earlier this week and them still not having a solid ETA, and me having a number of trips coming up in late March/early April that I'd really like to have a lift for, I've decided to find another solution.
The kit Ironman is selling for the Armada is the exact same as their Patrol kit. This has been confirmed by their staff and by the looking at the specs provided on the US and Australian websites. As I've said before, this makes me think that ANY non-HMBC Y62 Patrol springs and shocks will work, but I wanted to do some digging to confirm my hunch. Below is a table of all the available springs from Old Man Emu (OME), Ironman, Dobinson, and Moog that I'm aware of that will work for the Y62 platform as well as all the gas/foam cell shocks.

Obviously there are some differences between the manufactures, but they are close enough for me to believe that they will all bolt right on. Here is the catch, though; since OME and Dobinson do not claim that these will work for the Armada, they will only bring these parts in as special order and you cannot return them if they for some reason don't work. But since I have read multiple accounts of people having success with the Ironman kit, and me being impatient and on a timeline, I said F it and ordered OME 2978's, 2986's, 90015's, and 60084's from Cruiser Outfitters. I went with the heavier springs on the front since I'm planning on putting a DASH Predator Bar and winch on this summer. Everything will be here mid-March, so we'll see how well they work out!

Having spent plenty of time looking closely at Ironman when considering stocking their product, it‘s my opinion that the quality of the Australian made shocks and coils are superior to the Ironman components which are made in China (shocks/bushings for sure, coils?). Dobinsons has some great offerings to but unless you’re getting into their variable taper and progressive coils, there isn’t any benefit outside of availability.

What I read about the Dobinson's stuff on Patrol forums is that they are great for heavier loads, which I'm not really running. They are also a bit pricier and the lead time was longer. I couldn't find anyone out there in the US who has posted about running OME equipment on their Y62 Armada's, so I'm still a bit "nervous" about the fitment, but as that chart outlines if the Ironman stuff works, then the OME stuff should be fine too. As always, glad Cruiser Outfitters is willing to bring in some non-Toyota stuff for my weird vehicle's!

I'm running Dobinson's stuff on my 4runner. I think it actually rides slightly softer than my OME stuff did. It's been on for 2 years and 35k miles with no issues so far.
