Stock CJ Questions

My brother has a bone stock 84 CJ-7 w/ a I-6 4.2L, he doesn't wheel it except extremely rarely. He wants to make a couple upgrades to make it easier and more reliable for his wife and teenage kids to drive around town.

First thing is, his carburetor is going out. Would it be better to just have his stock one rebuilt, or buy a new one? If buying a new one, which one; he isn't looking for any major performance gains, although better gas mileage is always a plus. Here's Quadratec's stock replacements, but what does 32/36 or 38/38 mean?

Second issue is he wants to convert to power brakes. Is it as simple as bolting on a new brake booster and master cylinder, bleeding the brakes and you're done?

Third is converting to power steering, this seems the most difficult with a bunch of parts to replace. Obviously he'll need a power steering pump, new serpentine belt, power steering box, hoses, and a new pitman arm. Anything else, like a different steering shaft? Does anyone make a kit for this, or do you just have to piecemeal it?

Sorry for the simple questions, I just never dealt with this stuff as my CJ already had them.

Thanks!

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Go with this carb and don't look back: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Moto...Q5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_2257wt_1165

You can bolt on cj7 power brake parts and be okay. Either use a PB proportioning valve (i'm not sure if there is one. It may just be the same as what you already have.) or get an adjustable one and put it inline to the rear brakes.

I'm not aware of a power steering kit. You shouldn't have any problems finding a junkyard set up that will bolt up.

X2 on they motorcraft 2100 carb... but I think you can find them for cheaper then $258.... oh yeah.. look for the article on Nutterbypass as well...

As far as the steering... you need to get a new coupler for the steering column as well as all the stuff you listed... the manual to power steering are two different types...

Go to the Jeepforum.com and there are plenty of articles on this stuff...
